I finally bit the bullet and bought some new clothes today.

I was quite apprehensive as I genuinely didn't know what size I would be, so I had my boyfriend with me who doubles up as my stylist 😂

I went into New Look - which I wouldn't have even dreamt of doing pre-surgery - and just asked him to pick some things for me.

He picked 3 coats (I currently have none that fit me, and it is getting cold here in the UK!), a skirt, and a cropped jumper. I was trying to insist that I would need a size UK 18-20 (which is a US 14-16 I think?), but he was adamant that I needed a UK 12-14 (US 8-10?)...I tried them on in the sizes he suggested, and they FIT.

I genuinely didn't believe it, like I don't think I have been this size since 2017/18...my brain can't actually see it or even compute with it.

Before surgery I was a UK 22, more of a 24 in most things if I am honest. Just can't believe it yet. Does anyone else get like this?!

But I am riding a high today, I feel good, and I am still in shock 😂

Congrats and enjoy wearing the clothes now as they probably will be getting loose in the coming weeks/months 😀. Did you get all of what you tried on?

I still honestly don't see a thin me a lot of the time. I know that I don't have to shop in the plus size shops or sections anymore but I find it difficult to comprehend at times that number of sizes I have come down. In my jeans and trousers I have gone from a UK 22/3XL to a UK 8.

I think part of my problem though is also the inconsistency of sizing across different brands, it doesn't always help with a healthy body image. I mentioned it in another post this week about my holidays in the US last week, I found it very hard to find clothes as in some cases even size 0 and XXS was too big, all I came back with was a rain coat, t-shirt and blouse in XS, tracksuit bottoms in a small and a youths small t-shirt and tracksuit top (thankfully the shop had the same tracksuit for youths and adults 😂). Seriously disappointed as I had brought an extra suitcase with me which came back empty though on the plus side I came back with more than half of my spending money.

I still do double takes at times when I see myself in the mirror.

Today I brough another three suitcases of clothes to the recycling center. It took me three trips to walk there with the full bag each time but it also helped me get my steps in.

It’s a wonderful non scale victory you can really enjoy even though it can be blow your mind. So many more options and a lot of fun to discover your new style and what looks great on your smaller body.

Five years out and I still get that buzz at the size of my clothes. Not as often but still a great feeling. Keeps me motivated too.

Thanks for your comments everyone!

My boyfriend actually bought me everything I tried on 🤣 Apart from 1 skirt which didn't actually look nice on, so I was happy to put that back aha.

I have been paid today so I am having to resist the temptation to buy more clothes...BUT, 3 coats, a skirt and a top is not a full wardrobe to sustain me...so I guess I will have to go shopping 🤷‍♀️😂

Awesome! I bought a bunch of new clothes at the beginning of the summer, finally got rid of all my old clothes....and now they are too big. :D Good thing I only buy a few things here and there and usually from Discount stores such as Ross.

Tops 2x/3x to a S/M and there are times when I do laundry Im like whose clothes are these? or getting pants from the closet then look to put them on and just feel like "no way these are fitting" and they slip right on! I am so so so proud of you!!! enjoy these highs!

I’m like that with knickers sometimes. Who owns these teeny tiny knickers. Oh, I’m the only one who lives here so they have to be mine. Skinny jeans could really blow my mind - surely they’d only fit my then 12 year old niece. Nope fit me fine.

Oh my goodness, I find it so hard to shop for clothing in stores right now because I can't tell by looking whether something will fit. I order a lot of clothing online, and for that I find the measurement chart helpful because those don't lie the way numbered sizes do. For going into winter, I've bought 3 pairs of jeans, some skirts, and several sweaters. I'm keeping the summer clothing until next year but not sure how much of it will fit by then. I'm less than 20 lbs away from my goal weight now, so that will maybe be one more size down? I guess we'll see! For now, I have been buying cheaper options, but I look forward to buying some nicer brands once I hit maintenance.

It's such a mindset shift isnt it! The old me used to dread going shopping so much in case they didnt have my size (most places didnt) so literally had to be dragged shopping.

Congrats btw, we keep hitting new milestones and I for one am so much happier in my own skin, and i'm only just past half way to my goal.

if anyone is like 5'2"-ish and want some clothes in various sizes from size 18 to size 6, AND willing to pay for shipping from Canada, let me know! i's be happy to hand it over to a fellow wls-er.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
