steph_co 9 Posted December 31, 2007 I'll be following this thread with interest. I had 3cc in at surgery, 2 added and couldn't get Water down at the Dr's office, so they took out .5. So I'm at 4.5cc and can pretty much eat anything. I know people have said chicken or doughy breads can get stuck...not so with me at all. The only thing I've had feel even remotely "stuck" was some shredded bbq beef, but it went down fine. I can eat more than a cup of food...I try to not go above a cup, though...and I still count calories.
Skinny_Jill 36 Posted January 3, 2008 I have a 10 cc band and had no fill at surgery. I could eat way too much 3 weeks after surgery. I got my 1st fill one week ago today which was 5 weeks after surgery. I got 3.5cc's. It has made a difference but I think I need more. I had a couple of instances where I didn't chew well and had a pain in my back. I can't chug Water but I can drink at a normal pace. I am being very careful so I don't get stuck but I think I could eat just about anything.
sharon2u 0 Posted January 4, 2008 I have 6 cc's in my band and well I cannot eat anything that I want. I am so restricted that my saliva gets very thick during eating and I have to either spit it out of just throw it up. I watch what I can eat and how much sometimes I get a pin in my upper back and once I PB it the pain goes away. I am not hungry but I know I have to eat something. I drink my Protein Shakes three times per day before meals as directed by my Dr. I was banded in September 2007 and I am down to 70 pounds of weightloss and I am averaging like this week 8 pounds more gone. I exercise and walk all the time. I was a size 24 and I bought me some size 16 jeans before Christmas and had them hemmed up at the cleaners brought thme home today and I was disappointed becuase the 16's are now big one me now I am not complaining but I did not even get to wear these but since they came with a belt well you bet I will wear them until I need a size 12 and the way I am seeing things these days I will reach that maybe by the end of March. I think the Dr. found my sweet spot I have had 3 fills so far.
sharon2u 0 Posted January 4, 2008 Hi, I was banded in September 2007, 6 weeks after I had my first fill it was a 1 .5 cc got sick afterwards trouble swalling etc. so the Dr. put my second one on hold, three weeks later I went back and he gave me a fill of 2 and 3/4 of a fill then 2 weeks later I had my third fill another 2 cc's and well that one hit the sweet spot for sure. Can't eat a lot of foods, sometimes I get stuck and vomit up not food but the saliva woner why it is so thick? Not really hungry but I eat a few bites drink tons of Water but don't gulp because that comes back up at times I have my Protein Drinks and found that the one nectar Fuzzy Navel flavor is not too bad. I have lost a lot of weight 70 pounds since surgery 4 months post op on January 10, 2008 and I continue to exercise because trust me eating very little and exercising is an added plus the weight comes off quicker and more easily. I am 54 years old and the exercise is hard but I have to do. I have this thing called the Bean check it out at Walmart it will kick your butt for sure. Lala D 0 Posted January 4, 2008 I was banded in late 10/07 and currently have 5.5 cc's. I have very little restriction, mostly just TOM and really dry chicken. I am happy to see that there are people with restriction who have only a few more cc's than I do. My surgeon said that 7 cc's seems to be the magic number but I hope to get up to 6+ with my next fill in February. sharon2u...your weight loss is inspiring and pretty impressive. Please keep us posted of your success.
Karen85 16 Posted January 4, 2008 I have seen some threads for different bands and wondering if I could get an idea how much each of you have in your Inamed/Allergan 10cc band to get the right restriction. How many fills and about how far apart were they to get the right restriction? Of course, I'm wondering this b/c I have that kind of band! Thanks! :help: hey i have a 10cc band and my 1st fill was 2.4cc and i was still starving from that...then my 1nd fill was 5.6cc and i was still hungry between meals...and i just got my 3rd fill on dec. 26th and i got my band filled to 8cc. i am still feeling hungry a little bit. it all depends on what i eat...but i can eat sometimes more than what i am supposed to eat. do you eat small portions? cuz i can eat almost 6 ounces of sirlion meat. and i think that is more than average from what i am supposed to eat. get back to me.. it will probably take a few months to get the right restriction that we are looking for. give it some time. i know its hard though cause i want that restriction too and i'm sure a lot of us want it too. good luck. DrWatkins 5 Posted January 4, 2008 I have seen some threads for different bands and wondering if I could get an idea how much each of you have in your Inamed/Allergan 10cc band to get the right restriction. How many fills and about how far apart were they to get the right restriction? Of course, I'm wondering this b/c I have that kind of band! Thanks! :help: The volume in bands to reach perfection is really quite different from one individual to another. I tell patients to not worry about what other people have in their bands. We have patients that lose all their weight with no fills and we have some patients that get filled a bit beyond the max amount of saline to reach perfection. I think that regardless of how much saline is in there, if you can eat a lot and are hungry and it is hard to lose weight you probably need more saline in your band to help you out. A lot of patients reach perfection on the fill but then get discouraged later because the perfect restriction gradually goes away. This is caused by the fact that the stomach tissue inside the band is losing weight with you and you need another fill to reach the same degree of restriction. hope that helps
peaches9 3 Posted January 4, 2008 DrWatson, a question for you.... Hello Dr.Watson; I have a question regarding a leaking band. At least this is what is suspected.... I have had 7 fills, the last fill the RN decided to pull out all the Fluid in band to see how much was there... should have been 9.75cc's but only 4 cc's were present. I am booked for a Fluro Barium Xray on Jan 7th/2008 My question is this, what contrast material is used in the Barium swallow? The reason I am curious/concerned is that I am severly allergic to I.V.P. dye which contained Iodine. Back in 1975 I had to have a bladder/kidney xray and they put IVP dye into my vein and I went into cardiac arrest from anaphylactic shock..(sorry about the spelling) Can you give me any insights? Thanks in advance, Peaches

Thanks in advance, Peaches It is not uncommon for there to be less saline than what we think is in the band. When we record fills in the chart we just add the amount to the last total but over time the band balloon does lose a little saline. More important than the total volume is the restriction you have and are able to maintain. In my experience, if there is a leak, you repeatedly are unable to withdraw any saline from the band. The fact that 4cc were still there suggests that you do not have a leak. If they put 9cc in there and it repeatedly goes down to 4cc over a short period of time - this would suggest a leak as well. When patients have a leak they have great restriction when they leave the office and it's gone over 1-7 days depending upon how slow the leak is. Hope that helps

losin'it 0 Posted January 17, 2008 Hi! I have my fills done under fluoroscopy and at my first fill I got 8.5ccs and had pretty good restriction for about 2 1/2 weeks and then it loosened up to the point where I had little or no restriction. I went this past Thursday and he added 3ccs and I'm on the verge of being too tight. When I asked him how much exactly was in my band he said he didn't know and that it didn't matter because he uses the fluoroscopy to see exactly how tight it is. I'm not sure if that means he withdrew some before he added the 3ccs or if that is in addition to the 8ccs. At any rate, I'm giving it another few days and if things don't loosen up a little bit I'm going to give him a call. Cara
Sandy63 0 Posted January 17, 2008 I had my first fill today. I now have 1cc in my 10cc band. He told me that if I feel that I don't have enough restriction to call for another fill next week. Here I was thinking that I already had some in there from surgery, because I have felt the restriction since surgery! Today hasn't been all that bad. Just a little pain above the port site, I guess from the manipulation of trying to find the port.
Big Fred 0 Posted January 17, 2008 Had my second fill yesterday 1/16/08, now have a total of 5cc's in a 10cc ap band. The Dr. said that it is more like 4.5cc because the fill tube holds some saline as well. I can honestly say that I feel some restriction now, had some before after my first fill 12/5/07 - but that slowly faded. I'll see how long this feeling lasts, Im not as hungry as before. This process has a learning curve associated with it, not sure how much was head hunger vs actual hunger. I was banded on 10/25/07 and have lost 30lbs since then, added to the 25lbs lost prior to surgery for a total of 55lbs since this journey began. Can't complain but would like it to come off faster. 03/24/07 - 374lbs - Journey begins 10/25/07 - 349lbs - Surgery Date 12/05/07 - 323lbs - First Fill - 3cc's in a 10cc band 01/16/08 - 319lbs - Second Fill - 2cc's more for a total of 5cc's
