Hiccups anyone?

Recommended Posts

I've been getting the hiccups a lot lately. (At least they don't hurt anymore.) Anyone else have a higher rate of getting the hiccups, either right after being banded, or just with the band in *hic* general?

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

Yup! I still get them a few times a week. It usually happens when I eat or drink to fast or take in too much air when I eat. All normal...

Hi Jonathan welcome to the other side...I get hiccups alot! I just had a fill and I get them everyday now because I am sooo restricted. When I was first banded I got them just like now and I would get them when I was at my food limit. When you get that full feeling and heaviness you are done eating! I usually get them at that point. I think it is part of this band ...alot of weirds noises sometimes, burping and hiccups. They are all to be taken seriously and help you know you are done eating ...I peeked at your website...you are on your way and are looking good already!

Yep... especially if I eat that one bite too many... it happened more in the beginning... now it's just burping and farting. :) Oh the joys ahead for you....lol.

Some people say drinking w/a straw helps limit the amount of air swallowed.

It only happens to me when I eat. Probably related to the same thing others have said -- I ate one too many bites, or ate too fast. I used to always get hiccups eating fried rice... which I always ate too much of, too fast. =)

I usually get them when I have hit my full spot. Does not hurt and they only last a little while.

I've read that the hiccoughs can be attributed to the diaphragm being irritated, which is why they seem to happen so often to bandsters right after they eat - the full pouch pushes up against the diaphragm.

I'm sure that's not the only explanation for hiccoughs, but it seems to be one of the most logical in regards to a banded person. Many banded people get a single hiccough as their "soft stop" signal.

Yep! In the early days it was just one or two hiccups a little while after eating. Now I get a full fledge hiccup attack almost everytime I eat meat. It's embarrassing in a restruarant!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
