Jonathan 5 Posted February 9, 2005 I've been getting the hiccups a lot lately. (At least they don't hurt anymore.) Anyone else have a higher rate of getting the hiccups, either right after being banded, or just with the band in *hic* general? Jonathan
babsyintx 0 Posted February 9, 2005 Hi Jonathan, Yup! I still get them a few times a week. It usually happens when I eat or drink to fast or take in too much air when I eat. All normal... Babs in TX 334/184/170 -150 6/23/
Kelly Ann 0 Posted February 9, 2005 Hi Jonathan welcome to the other side...I get hiccups alot! I just had a fill and I get them everyday now because I am sooo restricted. When I was first banded I got them just like now and I would get them when I was at my food limit. When you get that full feeling and heaviness you are done eating! I usually get them at that point. I think it is part of this band ...alot of weirds noises sometimes, burping and hiccups. They are all to be taken seriously and help you know you are done eating ...I peeked at your website...you are on your way and are looking good already! nightingale2u 42 Posted February 9, 2005 Yep... especially if I eat that one bite too many... it happened more in the beginning... now it's just burping and farting. Oh the joys ahead for you....lol.
New Hope 37 Posted February 9, 2005 Some people say drinking w/a straw helps limit the amount of air swallowed.
Jonathan 5 Posted February 9, 2005 Some people say drinking w/a straw helps limit the amount of air swallowed. It only happens to me when I eat. Probably related to the same thing others have said -- I ate one too many bites, or ate too fast. I used to always get hiccups eating fried rice... which I always ate too much of, too fast. =)
Mita 2 Posted February 9, 2005 I usually get them when I have hit my full spot. Does not hurt and they only last a little while.
donali 57 Posted February 9, 2005 I've read that the hiccoughs can be attributed to the diaphragm being irritated, which is why they seem to happen so often to bandsters right after they eat - the full pouch pushes up against the diaphragm. I'm sure that's not the only explanation for hiccoughs, but it seems to be one of the most logical in regards to a banded person. Many banded people get a single hiccough as their "soft stop" signal. leatha_g 4 Posted February 10, 2005 Yup, if I start hiccuping or just have that ONE hiccup, that is truly a sign for me.
blossom 2 Posted February 10, 2005 Yep! In the early days it was just one or two hiccups a little while after eating. Now I get a full fledge hiccup attack almost everytime I eat meat. It's embarrassing in a restruarant!
