Periods...Hormones...All the lovely things 🤔

Recommended Posts

So if any of you have read my story on here, you will know I have PCOS.

I am 28 now, and I was diagnosed when I was 21.

I haven't really had a regular cycle, and in the past 2 years I have probably only had 3 times where I have bled REALLY light. I wouldn't even call it a period 🤣

So now I have lost weight, in the past 2 and a bit months I have had 2 periods - proper ones! I am both elated but also now reminded of the annoyance of them 😂

Grateful to my body for functioning, but boy oh boy, the hormones?!?! I have been an absolute wreck this week - angry, depressed, sad, crying, detached, more angry. 🤦‍♀️

On an interesting note though, I was really struggling with my restriction - I really need to be eating more - and I noticed that whilst on my period I could eat more which was good!

Anyway, just a bit of an observation from me 😂

It's great that your body is starting to regulate! But also... periods, boo!

I started using the Mirena IUD after my youngest was born, so going on 13 years of no periods (although not everyone has that luck with it). However, the last couple months, I have had noticeable spotting that lasted several days, and also the tenderness in my breasts that I always had with my period. So definitely there's something changing for me, too, with weight loss, even though it's being masked a bit more because of the birth control. I was starting to wonder, since I'm 50 now, if maybe I was done (hard to know if you've hit menopause with Mirena) but this seems to have answered that question, anyway.

Before I had my hysterectomy, I noticed my PCOS sort of regulated a bit. Didn't do a whole lot for my hormonal imbalance, skin tags, insulin resistance, and it really made losing weight slower and more difficult, but it straightened out my periods a lot. I would go 2 or 3 months without one, then bleed like niagra falls for 2 weeks straight, then get a light one the next month, then start over. After I dropped my first 70ish pounds, I noticed they were coming in more regularly, and after my first 100ish pounds lost, they were proper length, proper frequency. And it stayed that way until about 4 months before my hysterectomy. Then they started getting wonky again. Skipped 2 months, needed progesterone to get it started the next month which caused HEEAAVY bleeding, then nothing the next month, then hysterectomy and I didn't care lol

Big boo for sure!

I have the Jaydess coil which has been so good, but bloody painful having it done! (when will women's pain relief be taken seriously?). It is so interesting how the body just starts healing itself effectively! I am glad to know I am not alone in this!

Oh god that sounds like a rollercoaster!

I think the only time I remember my periods being extremely heavy and frequent was when I was a teenager when they started, and then they were just so sporadic! I have to say I am not looking forward to going back to heavy if that is what is in the cards for me 🤣

When they started regulating out, they were more normal and not super heavy. Only at the end when I needed to take the progesterone (my uterine fibroids were so big at that point that I couldn't have any kind of period...normal or otherwise). But before that happened, my periods came every month, lasted 3-5 days, and would be normal as far as how heavy they were. So that's something to look forward to!! Well, as much as one can look forward to anything involving their period lol

Hummmm. I just got mirena in January. Haven’t had a period since so I gave my stockpile of products to my younger cousin. Maybe I should’ve hung onto them. Fingers crossed it still controls it or at least they are not as heavy. Mine were always so awful and idk why but I was so afraid of the pain with inserting it that I waited way to long. It wasn’t as bad as I expected. I do agree that women’s procedures need to be done with more than OTC pain meds. Even worse I got mine post sleeve so I wasn’t supposed to take Alieve and do you think that Dr would give me anything. Nope. Said I would be okay without anything. I made an appt with the NP at my surgeons office though and she told me it was okay to take the alieve as a one off with the sleeve since I was a few years out. They need to just be giving women something for this stuff to start with. You know if it were men getting the same thing they would be changing that right away.

I wonder if Midol or Pamprin have NSAIDS. It’s been a while but I believe they help with mood.

I looked it up. Says it helps with irritability. I think I need it for this LSD. 😂

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Lost my Pup last month and struggled really hard for that first month. Stopped tracking intake and slid into old habits here and there. Also quit working out. Can't walk in the neighborhood because of all of the memories we shared. Losing my Pup is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever been through. My Pup was my world 💔
Talked to my doc during my one year followup and they were not worried about my current status. They know, and I know, that I will get back on track.
