Tomorrow is my surgery and I’m packing my hospital bag. Did you guys wear specific clothing for way home??? I will have 5 keyhole type incisions and I’m thinking I’m not gonna want a waist band?

Any that had this surgery, did it matter if you wore shorts or anything. Are the incisions higher than that?

Hey there, I had gastric bypass but it's basically the same thing for incisions. I suggest something loose and comfy. My surgery was in the winter, so I wore elastic waistband pajama bottoms and a loose top. You may be a bit puffy from IV fluids and surgical gas so expect to feel bloated and not wanting anything tight on your abdomen. If I were choosing an outfit for summertime, I would probably go for a sundress with no waistband or light pajama bottoms and a t-shirt. I actually wore my clothing in and back home because I arrived first thing in the morning and immediately changed into the hospital gown, which I wore until I was discharged, so my arrival clothing was clean. Just brought underwear, socks, and very basic toiletries. You won't need much, but I do suggest chapstick because dry lips is a real problem. Some hand lotion, too. I brought my Kindle and never turned it on.

I woke up with a waist binder on from my sleeve which is pretty thick so it wouldn’t have really mattered so long as the waist was not too too tight. Like i wouldn’t wear jeans but looser leggings, pajama pants, track pants, shorts. Whatever you have. My incisions we’re pretty tiny and covered with tape (and then the binder) so in terms of like rubbing I don’t think it would have mattered. Not sure if everyone gets a binder though. To answer your main question my lowest incision was just below my belly button the highest is about 2 or 3” below my boobs if I’m wearing a bra 🤣

Assuming you’re going straight there and straight home i would honestly just wear whatever you are comfortable in. I wore Nike pants with slides and socks because I didn’t want to have to deal with sneakers 🤷🏼‍♀️ it wasn’t my finest fashion statement but I figured it’s a hospital everyone there is worried about their own stuff. The sundress was a good idea if you are comfortable in them. It would probably be easiest to put back on. No bending which is good. Ooh and I wore the same thing home as I wore there too. They had me change first thing when I got called back. I Just brought underthings and toiletries but I wasn’t allowed to shower. I did use my tablet, phone and chargers. Good luck tomorrow.

I wore home what I wore to the hospital: a loose thigh length top & pull on trousers with elastine. The pants fit snuggly (not tight) a little above my wound line & I actually found them supportive around/against the wound line. Also knew they’d be easy to fold down if they did put too much pressure on the wounds & the top was long enough to cover the folded waist.

My wounds were in line with my belly button but some sit below the belly button - you never know where they’ll be exactly. If you’re worried I’d go the dress route.

All the best with your surgery.

I wore a long muu muu with a Long Beach cover up, both there and back. I knew I wouldn’t want anything on my waist.

Both times I wore leggings (soft with a soft waist) and a loose top. I wore it there and just wore the same thing home. I just wanted to make sure it was soft and loose.

Lost my Pup last month and struggled really hard for that first month. Stopped tracking intake and slid into old habits here and there. Also quit working out. Can't walk in the neighborhood because of all of the memories we shared. Losing my Pup is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever been through. My Pup was my world 💔
Talked to my doc during my one year followup and they were not worried about my current status. They know, and I know, that I will get back on track.

I'm officially no longer "obese" and now classified as "overweight!" Years ago when I was 108 lbs (my old adult holding weight until the last 10 years) would I have ever thought there would come a day that I'd celebrate being "overweight!"
I hit my one year surgery anniversary next Wednesday (August 21st, 2023) and just so happen to have my final bariatric clinic check up on the same day. I'm looking forward to seeing my surgeon and being officially released into the wild! 😋
I'm curious as to what my labs will say, especially since they told me to not take my vitamins a few days before the labs. To be honest, I find this confusing since the whole point of taking vitamins is to keep your stats within normal ranges - to assure they're working as intended, yet since I quit taking them it will show I need to take them..so I'll hear "make sure to take your vitamins!" A vicious circle. Who knows why?!
Anyway, I have 40lbs to go to meet my goal and I'm really hoping I can do it in the next 6 months (for a total of 18 months post surgery). At my starting weight the charts show only 20% reach their goal within 18 months with a starting weight of 259 the day of surgery. I'd like to add that to achieved goals. Fingers crossed!
I'm amazed and thankful for everyone here on these forums who've supported me, answered my questions and understood the plight! Thank you all, you know who you are.
