Not sure about what stage hon in but nutrition wise The only ones I see have bacon which may not be ideal in the weight loss stage. What about boiled eggs? . They are high on Protein and pretty portable. If you need to keep the calories lower just bring a couple and don’t eat the yolk.

Phase 3 or 2 wks post op I’m on soft or puréed foods. Each morning before going to work I make a high Protein Shake with fairlife and Unjury. I’m not able to drink as much as I would like. I’ve tried putting it in the fridge for lunch but it’s never very good. I’m now able to add in soft foods.

Well for the shake since you are making it maybe you can just make Half and then take the ingredients with you to make the other half. Hopefully you won’t have to do it for too long. You should get to where you can drink more once the swelling goes down some more and eventually you ideally will be able to get all of your Protein from food.

in terms of what’s allowed at this stage though, I would try to stick to what your doctor has on their list. I think most people have scrambled eggs on either purée or soft foods. Is that on your list? Those could be made ahead and heated up if you have a microwave at work.

At 2 weeks, I was on things like avocado spread, cottage cheese, hummus, refried Beans, softly scrambled eggs. I was also drinking ready made Protein Shakes because they count as fluids and Protein. I also was drinking protein gatorade zero. I would just be careful with what you're eating and how much, because at 2 weeks out you're still healing.

The ready made Fairlife shakes have been my main source of Protein and I’m having to remind myself I’m just 2 weeks out because I’ve felt so good until yesterday. I have tried cottage cheese and that didn’t settle very well and I love cottage cheese. I’m not giving up on it. I’m just very impatient. I did try ribeye steak last night…..I grilled a small portion then ground it in my meat grinder which pretty much pulverized it and grilled potato slices until very soft. I was able to eat a small portion with enough for probably 2 meals. I had not thought about refried Beans. I will definitely give those a try. It’s quite difficult to have small meals during the day due to working in a busy cardiology clinic. I have lost a total of 22 lbs since my pre-op visit which was 3 wks before my surgery but I started the liquid diet 1 month before surgery.

Did anyone tell you about the ricotta bake. That’s another thing that is good on purée/soft food. It’s basically lasagna without the noodles. You can bake it in the oven but I just microwaved it. Ricotta, marinara (without chunks) and low fat cheese. Some recipes that you bake call for an egg which may be better but I never tried that one. The refried brand reminded me because I basically lived on them two things for a while.

A lot of peoples tastes change a bit post surgery. Usually it’s temporary but I’ve heard a lot of people say it about sweet stuff. Some people have to dilute the Protein Shakes with milk to make them palletable. Another trick if you like iced coffee would be to mix in some coffee if you are allowed regular or Decaf. I usually take a big cup, dump in the whole shake and then add coffee to the top but you may want even less of the shake. I buy these Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffee packets at Walmart that you can mix right into a bottled Water so it’s already cold. It’s $4 for 6 of them but I only use half a bottle per day so it’s not that bad. If you remember to mix it at room temp and then refridgerate it you can get regular brew ones in Folgers for like a buck a box. I’m just not that organized. I have tried it though with the decaf and it works. You have to shake it and then go back to it a few times.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
