Falling off the wagon.... Help!

Recommended Posts

I'm so glad i'm not the only one. I was on liquid phase during Christmas dinner. I had a spoon full of gravy and then sat on the couch with my powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup. Blah! I wanted to cry. Everybody felt sorry for me and I was looking at their plates like a rabid dog. A friend told me that right after being banded, I wouldn't even want to eat that food-- but boy was she wrong! Only the fear of being in the emergency room kept me away from that dinner table.

Yesterday was my first day of purees and I was sooooo glad to not be on liquid anymore. It's amazing what a difference a little volume/density makes. I am paranoid about stretching my pouch so I only eat about 3-4 teaspoons at a time and surprisingly, I'm satisfied with that. I do need to drink more Protein, thought, which is hard because I feel full most of the day.

Kissmygrits, stop, your making me laugh so hard, I felt a stich pop (lol) ladies I am just starting, so no real hunger yet. on liquids for 2 weeks so as not to stretch the pouch. all of you are doing great.

I am pround of your honesty in telling it like it is. I was reading my post-op booklet and started to cry I thought I would never be able to eat again, I love food, its my baby.

just curious, how can someone lose weight on 1000 calories a day, when I was on my Atkins diet, there was no need to count colories. I just wondering, can you do low carb. with banding.

Am I fooling myself

Through this Holiday season I have found some mushie food for me to munch on. But the problem with that is just serving myself a 1/2 a cup. My eyes are bigger than my stomach![/quote

I bought a chinese dipping sause bowl it is small and only holds about a half a cup. I have one at work and one at home. It is a cute little bowl too. helps me remember what size I need to be eatting.

You shoul dbe able to have some foods? cottage cheese? eggs?

Lachica, Yes, you can do low(er) carb with the band and a lot of folks on LBT do. I certainly will be as soon as I'm into the solid food stage. Right now it's mushies, and unfortunately, most mushies are carbs. I know enough about how my body works to know that I really have to watch the carbs if I want to lose weight.

I think the bandster rule about eating Protein first, then veggie, then carbs, kinda forces you into a lower carb way of eating anyway. There's hardly any room left in your tummy for carb by the time you get to it.

I had my band replaced Nov. 5th and have not been able to get a fill because of infection. I have now gained 11 pounds since the change and am getting depressed . I know I should be in control but I am having trouble, I've been under alot of stress and am losing control.:faint:I feel like a failure because when I had the old band I couldn't eat and was losing weight but now I have no control. I just need encouragement and to hear others have had this happen to them, I'm not the only one!

I'm so sorry to hear about your infection Marie. We are here for ya. I think the best advice is the one posted earlier about there are points where we are not supposed to lose but heal. I think this is your time to heal and you will get your mojo back at your first fill with the rest of us.

You are doing so well! I'm praying I don't but know now that my swelling is down and there is no restriction that my weight will gradually go back up before the fill.

Keep your head up, you are doing so great!!

I am frustrated with myself too. I have sabotaged my whole diet, I eat like a machine, have had wine for new years, stayed on liquid diet for 3 weeks and then ate whatever I could get my hands on. I was licking potato chips at week 3 and spooning dip into my face. My first fill is Jan7th. I feel I've probably ruined the band. I pb'd a couple days ago after drinking too much wine on new years. What an idiot!

Hope you don't mind an intruder from the August board. I was unfilled for 42 days and just had my fill redone on Dec 21. During that time, I just kept telling myself that I was not hungry and really focused on fufilling the band rules, even though they really didn't need to be followed. I actually switched to a low-fat version of Atkins to kickstart the weightloss. I only did it because I plateaued and was getting hungry by the end. One of the things I had to do was throw out any foods that I shouldn't eat. If my BF wanted them I told him he had to put them somewhere that I didn't know where they were. The band is a tool, but we are always in charge. I am assuming that your lack of fill is not permanent so you have to focus on the present and not on what has been or what will be. It is tough, I KNOW. If you are hungry, eat more veggies. If you do eat things that you know are great, exercise more. I am very proud of my weighloss with the band and the 42 days without the fill showed me that so much of this battle is within our heads. I lost 10 pounds while being unfilled and that was shear determination. I had incredible support from my lap band family on the August and July boards, and their encouragement kept me going. Yes it is terrible to be without a fill, but don't let that excuse keep you from getting to your dream.

Hope things get better

That is a great idea, the small bowl, I know I am probably eating a little too much. I will start the small bowl. I was going to eat 1/2 of a baked potatoe for lunch tomorrow, but I think I will rethink that. I just had my dessert of 1 tsp low-fat Peanut Butter. My problem is I like variety. The Progesso low-fat Soups are good and I puree them, but I am eating a cup which is about 120 calories.

How will you know if your band slips?

Thanks, about the doc will tell me if the band has slipped. I feel fine, but wonder how things will feel as we go along. I miss going out to eat, just for the being out part and sitting and talking. I just need to learn how to do that without wanting to eat it all.

I took the grandkids out today and had a cup of Tortilla Soup, mostly tomatoes, a little chicken, good rich broth. It was pretty mushy which was great.

My other treat is to go to Starbucks, a nonfat, Decaf, latte. I haven't heard you can't have decaf, let me know if that is bad.

Thanks everyone for keeping in touch.

Coffee is ok... Per my doc - each is diff - what did your doc say...

When you are out to eat - order your food and when it comes - ask for a box - and box what you aren't going to eat right then and there .

I too find myself picking if there is food in front of me even when I am full..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
