Surgery Cancelled - Super bummed

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

My surgery was supposed to be July 10/24. I spent hours waiting at the hospital only to be told that there was an emergency in the OR and my surgery had to be cancelled. Super bummed about it. I was told I may have to wait until beginning of September now. I get it, these things happen but i just spent 3 weeks on a liquid diet and rearrached my whole life to do this. 😞

Ugh, I can only imagine -- waiting for surgery is tough enough, but having it postponed so suddenly must be really rough on the psyche. I'm an anxious person by nature, I totally understand how much this could be stressing you out.

On the bright side, go you! Look at how much you lost already pre-op! ❤️

I’m so sorry. That would be such a letdown. Try not to let it get you off track though. You already went through the rough part of detoxing from all the stuff you crave. If you stick to a lower carb diet it should be that much easier for you the next time.

Also, I would ask if they can keep your number handy in case they have any cancellations.

Thank you for your replies. They do have my number in case of cancellations so that is a plus.

That's so cruel and everyone is so scared that it could happen to them. I think I might have had a melt down. I feel for you because we want this surgery so badly and 3 weeks on a liquid diet is brutal. Biggest hugs sent your way.

To be honest, I feel like I'm having a week long melt down over it and just giving myself a week's grace to work through my feelings. Thanks for your comment.

Sorry to hear you've had to go through this. My surgery is in October and I'm a bundle of nerves. I've been put on a 12 week liquid diet, and I couldn't imagine going through all this and then having to reschedule. Good Luck to you!

Oh no! 12 weeks is so long! Now that I think of it, this will likely be me also since I have no desire to completely opt out of the liquid diet in case a cancelation happens with someone else. I'm currently doing the shakes and a cup of low calorie Soup. Thank you for your message. 🤍

Did they not put you back on the schedule at all? I would’ve figured they would give you an appointment but then call you if they had a sooner one due to a cancellation. Also, At this point you have been on that diet for 6 weeks, right? I would call and make sure that it’s okay with your doctor that you continue on with that same diet. Some of these diets are only designed to be short term.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
