I am 4 days post op and I am having such a hard time wrapping my head around the modified liquid diet. I am very much a salty taste profile, but I am not finding much that can satiate that. What are some of your go to modified liquid foods.

My nutritionist has not gotten back to me yet.

This part doesn't last long but it does get samey. Have you tried bouillon cubes dissolved in Water. Milk whizzed with some zero sugar Peanut Butter. Any Soup sieved to take out the solids. I liked the flavour of chicken noodle soup, Gazpacho, and Pho.

I got my local Vietnamese restaurant to sell me a container of pho broth without any noodles, it was fantastic. Bouillon, or bone-broth (for the protein!) can satisfy that salt-craving. If you like creamy Soups, cream of mushroom (with all the bits strained out).

And honestly, all my life I avoided cream-of 'meat' soups but post-op, cream of chicken and cream of bacon were surprisingly good.

Sometimes too, the abundance of post-op Protein Shakes and their super-strong sweeteners is just overwhelming. If you haven't tried it yet, try some unflavored & unsweetened Protein Powder with milk, and just add a dash of cinnamon or a drop of almond extract to get some non-sweet flavors hitting your tastebuds.

I was given cream of chicken Soup with bits in it at the hospital day 1 after surgery. I was still hopped up on anesthesia at the time and called a nurse in to question why. She took my spoon and looked at it, then said the bits weren't big enough to cause a problem???? I thought well...it is a bariatric hospital so I ate it. It did taste wonderful and thankfully nothing got stuck in my incisions but I still question it.

In fact a relative of mine recently had WLS and on a phone consult within week 1 with same hospital nurses, was told to try a bit of bread for nausea??? I immediately remembered the soup they gave me and am now really questioning the nurses at that hospital and their knowledge of care for bariatric patients. I tried calling them to inquire about their iffy advice but never heard back. I need to call my bariatric team nutritionist to give them a heads up.

As for OP question about salty cravings. Soup. Bouillons, strained cream Soups and my fav... egg drop soup strained from a local Chinese restaurant. I even used a Vitamix to pulverize any bits that could cause problems later on.

Good luck on your journey @Sami2209.

I found a stock cube in Water with some Protein Powder had a bit of a salty flavouring to it. I am more savoury than sweet for my taste buds so I know how you are feeling.

The thing that got me through was knowing I was able to swallow very little of the liquids and it was only for a couple of weeks.

I also relate to this big time. Totally agree with others - strained Soups (home made for me but take it where you can get it!) got me through this phase. It is so short and every phase after that was so much easier. I actually loved my pureed food stage - it's when I realised I was eating proper food again and always would be able to. I do know others hated it, especially if they have texture issues (I don't)!

Best of luck on your journey OP.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
