O.K. Gang...I was banded on 12-18. Weight at 446 pre-op, liquid diet day of surgery 430. That week was tough. The first few days I didn't eat much, I couldn't, but yesterday and today I'm just starvin. Has anyone else experienced this? If I had the wilLpower to stay true to diets, I'd have just dieted. Now my question is this, does the size band matter? My doc said he put the large band in me. I don't know if mypouchis holding anything. I've experienced a lot of nausea, and gas. My sister lost 300# and is still loosing from surgery 2 years ago. So why am I hungry? Any comments?

dont worry this is normal your doctor probably put a 10 cc band or a 14 cc band on you but. just keep to the post op diet. it was hard for me to about day number 9 on liquids i was starving beyond belief now im on stage 2 pureed/mushy stage and now that i can eat i feel so much better. im lucky to eat a 1/2 cup but it still feel good to chew things. youll make it i havent hit eating totally solids yet. and once your able to get a fill in you feel restriction to where you feel full. but just hang in there things will work out.

yeah I think we all are my DR. said when your swelling go down your band we get lose causing you to get hungry once you are able to eat regular food you should layer your food meaning eat some meat first then sides if still not full eat the rest of your meat then sides the meat will sit in you tummy and take long to digest and make you feel full longer.

I feel the best today that I have since I woke up groaning in recovery. First two days was really bad for me anyway. I am healing good. Incisions are itchy and tender. Really bad hunger today that broth can't keep away. This pouch is restricting NOTHING. Of course, I understand that may be a norm for some. I can't wait until my first fill. I like the idea of, I can't, verses the idea of, you have to stick to a diet. Diets didn't work, thats why I am here...right.

Anyway, time will tell.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
