Post-Banding Reassurance

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I was banded on 12/21 and am in a lot of pain - I'm assuming from the gas - even though I'm walking, walking, walking. If I take in anything besides water/crushed ice, I feel like I'm going to throw up. Is this normal? I can't imagine being ready to start full liquids tomorrow. Also, did you all have to sleep in a chair for a couple of nights? I tried to get into bed last night and just about died from the pain of getting up. I'm not going to call the doc unless I'm still feeling like this in two days since from what I hear this is pretty normal. Just needed some reassurance. Thanks

Allheart:

Sounds like you are going through normal post-surgical uncomfortableness. Hope you feel better soon.

I was banded 11/27. My incisions were never sore ( they were stiched and then glued, not stapled) BUT the gas pains the first four days were bad. Felt like an elephant sitting on my chest and the pain radiated to my left shoulder.

I was on Clear Liquids the first week and the first few days I could not get in all the Protein drink I was supposed to drink.

Each day got better and each day I was able to drink more.

After the weeks, I switched to "full" liquids for another weeks, then the following week onto soft, mushie food.

Everyone is diffeent tho'.

Hope the info helps and hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for your feedback. I actually landed up back in the hospital yesterday - I couldn't even keep down Water. Turns out I was dehydrated - the doctor also took out some liquid from the band which made a world of difference. Let the journey begin.... :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
