I envy those with limited liquid diets. I've been on mine since this past Thursday and I feel tired today, which I was warned would happen. I haven't enjoyed chicken broth as mush as beef or vegetable. I ended up mixing the vegetable and chicken together and it's pretty good.

What kind of items are you bringing with you to the hospital so far? I hadn't thought about that yet.

I brought a change of clothes, phone charger, sleep mask, kindle and phone. I barely used the Kindle unless my phone was charging too talk to family. I slept most of Tuesday away.

Hi everyone, new to Bariatric pal but excited to be here. I’m a few days out from my surgery on the 22nd and I’m starting to feel nervous. Hospitals have never bothered me in the past but for some unknown reason I’m fretting over having to stay this time. Hoping this anxious feeling passes quickly so I can enjoy the journey.

I appreciate all of sunshine’s suggestions. I am also planning to bring with grippy socks. The ones they give in the hospital are always to big. Probably going to bring my water bottle also. Mainly just as a security item being I’m already comfortable with it.

Hi all. I’m two days post-op. I came home yesterday. I’m not gonna lie…this is difficult. Navigating all of the medications they sent home, trying to walk every two hours, using the breathing spirometer, and trying to get enough liquid and Protein is no joke. The core power shakes that I like are too thick and make me feel gross. I know this is temporary, but man I am not loving life right now. I never knew that room temperature Water was such a turn-off for me, but it is. Oh well, thanks for the vent. I’ve gotta finish my broth and go on a walk. Good luck to everyone today.

Wow I can relate to this and I’m 12 days post op. I’ve had a pretty bad experience so far with this. To begin with after surgery I developed a very rash all over body from a allergic reaction to the substance they clean your body while in surgery. So I felt with that for a couple of days. Went to the ER twice because the itching was unbearable. I swear I regretted the surgery at this point. I agree the Protein and Water you need to get down with just sipping is freakin hard. I’m in full liquids and I am starving. Sorry for all the negativity but that’s just where it’s at right now. I still pray every day I will see some type of light. I know God has me. Praying for you as well!!!!

I had my surgery on the 23rd. I struggle getting my water/liquid in. I know it’s supposed to be 64oz but dang, that’s a lot. And I always have the feeling of being super full, so when I do drink my Water, I feel like I’m overdoing it.

I’m now five days post op. Days 2 and 3 sucked, but I feel ok now. I’m only on Tylenol and celebrex. I’m walking about 7 times per day. One walk is a long walk. Each day gets better. The fluids and gas are starting to leave my body (finally)! I feel ok mentally. I can do this. I’m remembering why I said yes in the first place. I’m prioritizing my health. There’s going to be challenges, but I can do this. I’m far stronger than sometimes I give myself credit for.

I had mine on the 23rd. Haven’t managed to make my hydration and Protein goals yet- I hear that it’s a work in progress! But I have one incision that seriously hurts when I move. Ready for that to stop!

How’s everyone in the July group doing so far? I think I’m 16 days out as of today.
My surgery went well and recovery has been quite swift. I’m cleared to swim and do non vigorous exercises. Yay! I loved to swim laps prior to surgery, so I’m pretty thrilled to be back at the pool. It feels so good to move and my mobility has already gotten better!

I feel pretty good overall. I have weird days where I’m honestly just angry. Some of that is frustration with eating 1/4 cup meals of food. I just need to work through that and acknowledge my feelings. My journaling pen has also been getting a workout. I’m also a little frustrated with how much physical hunger I feel as well. I’m learning to deal with it and find other things to occupy my time instead of eating or thinking about eating/cooking/etc.
I wanted to note here that I spent a lot of time worrying before the surgery about the outcome, or “what if I feel like crap?” Well, the reality is that I felt like crap for about 3-4 days because of gas and Fluid. But, then it was over and I felt ok pretty quick. Don’t waste your time dwelling on that stuff. Get your fluids, your walks and your Protein. I recommend Unjury chicken Soup protein if you’re having problems getting your shakes down. Do what you’re supposed to do and in time you’ll thank yourself for taking care of yourself.
Sometimes what gets me through the negative thoughts is that these first few weeks are temporary and meant to retrain your stomach and your brain to make healthy choices. The weeks after surgery WILL pass quickly and you will come out the other side AND BE OK. Use the time to put some healthy routines in your pocket involving self-care, exercise, hydration, walking and protein. I’m excited to see where this journey will take me.

I’m only 2.5 weeks out. So, I’m not super helpful… but is there anything in particular that you’re struggling with?

Thanks for all your replies I was feeling as my weightloss wasn’t significant, I’m anxious to have a solid meal my surgeon had me on a 4week post op liquid diet and now I can move onto 2 weeks of puree then 2 week of soft food, his diet style seems strict and I’m just loosing motivation over here.. really trying though. Having an extremely difficult time meeting Protein and liquid goals, it’s so much for one day when my stomach can only handle 2oz at a time!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.

Lost my Pup last month and struggled really hard for that first month. Stopped tracking intake and slid into old habits here and there. Also quit working out. Can't walk in the neighborhood because of all of the memories we shared. Losing my Pup is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever been through. My Pup was my world 💔
Talked to my doc during my one year followup and they were not worried about my current status. They know, and I know, that I will get back on track.

I'm so sorry. I lost my pup (Mr. Bitters - a chocolate Pomeranian) 2 years ago and it still makes me tear up. He was my everything - my constant companion. I understand. Do the best you can to get back on track.
