Hello new here! Mines scheduled for 7/15/24. I been having a little hard time with the pre op diet.

It's not the easiest for sure. I'm 4 days to surgery and have been on the pre op diet for 17 days. The broth was the only savior for me. I couldn't stand normal broth, I ended up having to buy low sodium lipton chicken noodle Soup and drained the noodles. That and sugarfree banana popsicles saved me. You got this!!

Thank you so much! The pre op diet they have me on is 2 Protein Shakes and 1 meal 3-4 oz Protein and non starchy vegetables. I hear other people are on a all liquid diet for 2 weeks.

I kind of wish I hadn't had to do 3 weeks of liquid but honestly my appetite for food is dwindling. I noticed yesterday when I walked in to a building, I could smell something food related that honestly smelled amazing and I had this distinct, "Oh, that smells great" but I had no urge to eat it. Small victories!!

My diet is very similar to this and I’m scheduled 7/18. I have been struggling too but yesterday was actually an okay day. I found keeping yourself busy and take the chance on the chicken broth and the sugar free Jello and it makes it much easier!

Oh that great! So your pre op diet is just liquid or can you have 1 meal a day?

Hi Everyone, new here... My surgery date is 7/22 and my liquid diet starts tomorrow mid day. I have an apt tomorrow where they'll be giving me info and the foods I'll have to buy from their store. I'm nervous and excited... and dreading the liquid diet. Lol I'm already grieving food and I haven't even started it yet!

Hi all! My surgery is scheduled for 7/17. I'm just a little uner one week away. On day 7 of my liquid diet today. shakes, Water, sugar free popsicles and Jello. Oh - what I'd do for anything crunchy right now! I live for the moment I have to take my Vitamins simply for the ability to chew freely. LOL.
It's been a hard couple of days emotionally, but I'm trying super hard to stay positive. You go online and read horror story after horror story - but I know there are far more positive stories than negative. So - I'm holding onto that. And remembering my "whys". Hope everyone else is doing well and their July surgeries and preops are just a blip on the screen of a happy and healthy future! ❤️

tomorrow July 10 😌 Weird because 1200 calories for the past 2 weeks and liquid diet 24 hours before the surgery. This is gonna sound nuts but I hope that my liver isn't a fat gigantic thing... so embarrassing. I had gastric sleeve back almost a decade ago and managed to regain the weight. It's the same surgeon for this gastric bypass.

I was surprised today to learn I don't have to do an all liquid diet except the 24 hours before. I have to follow an 800-900 calorie diet for the 11 days before eating food from my bariatric food store. So I'm glad it's not just going to be having liquid, till after the surgery! 😀

Just got my surgery date 7/23 for bypass. Just bought all my Vitamins from Bariatric Pal. Stocking up on shakes, Protein Powder, yogurt smoothies, Soup, Jello. I do 10 days of liquids preop starting this Friday with the last 3 days being clears only. Going to have my steak Thursday night tho! 😂😜

What kind of steak are you getting? It's the last meal as you are, so I hope you make it something you truly love!

Oh goodness, I would struggle with that diet more than a liquid-only diet. With liquids, it takes away the temptation to have so many things I shouldn't. With a food-limiting diet, the food is there still, waiting for you to break and have a bigger portion. I'm sending all my self-control energies to you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
