Happy New Year! So glad I have you guys to help me through this journey! I don't always start the new year feeling great about making changes but that's different this year because of surgery. I have always made some kind of goal or resolution to lose weight or workout more over the years and have always felt like I "failed", but this year, I think I'm going to leave weight loss goals behind and just enjoy the ride as I continue to lose weight. Even though I still have about 60 lbs I want to lose, having lost over 40 lbs has made me feel so much lighter and better in my body. I want to focus on the positives and not so much the long ways I still have to go, because that feels like thats how my life has always been, such as "I will do this when I lose weight..." or "I will buy that dress when I lose weight...". I'm tired of waiting and hope to live more fully and authentically this year. Anyways... I'm rambling. I'm just really wanting to change my mindset and focus on positives.

Good for you. It’s important to love the skin you’re in. You are so much fitter and healthier already than when you started. Everything else is just a bonus in my eyes. Buy the dress now, do the thing you’ve been putting off now, live your life NOW!!

You have come so far already and if you are like me you already feel 100 times better. The way you feel and your health are so much more important than any number on the scale. Try to make the scale second to the priority of being healthier. That would be a good resolution for many of us.

It’s soooooo cold it’s hard to get up and get my exercise done early like I’m used to doing. I’m sure it’s been cold for many of you already in other parts of the country, but this is not typical for me. How do you guys get going early when it’s so cold? Also, I want to eat more when it’s cold too. Its like my body is not used to it and thinks I need to store enough to hibernate for the season.

I don’t have anything i absolutely have to do today so I reluctantly got up and made Breakfast then got back into bed to eat it. It’s almost noon so I guess I should do my walking now and then get my shower while it’s warmest but this plan won’t work long term. I have things to do. 😆

We totally get the "cold" vibes for a couple of months too! 😅 And by cold, I mean we're freezing at 19-20°C—total winter mode for us! I absolutely get in the mood to eat more when it's chilly, but I try to ignore it (or at least manage it) by always having good Snacks on hand. Things like beef Jerky, Greek yogurt, or even some fruits help keep me from overindulging.

Your plan to walk and then snuggle back into bed sounds perfect though! Nothing like getting that movement in and rewarding yourself with a cozy snuggle session. 🥰 You've got this!

Happy New Year! 🎉 I absolutely love your mindset and energy—it’s so inspiring! It’s such a huge shift to leave behind those weight-loss-focused resolutions and instead embrace the positives of where you are now. You've already accomplished so much, losing over 40 lbs is incredible, and feeling lighter and better in your body is such a win. 🙌

Focusing on the present and living fully is such a beautiful way to approach life. You deserve to wear that dress, enjoy those experiences, and Celebrate yourself right now, not just when you reach a certain goal. Your journey isn’t just about the destination, it’s about living and loving every step along the way.

Here’s to a year of living authentically, celebrating every win (big or small), and feeling great in your own skin. You've got this! 💖

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
