There were definitely days during Christmas time when I was eating close or at 1500, mostly because all the food was more high caloric than what I normally eat. It’s not an always thing for me but it happens on hungry days for me.

I think our bodies are kindly used to running on a varied amount of calories because if you think about it back in like caveman days or whatever they may eat a feast one day and nothing the next so eating a little more one day and a little less another it’s kinda works out. We just have to be honest with ourselves and make sure we really are eating a little less the same amount of days as the days we eat a little more. Or I know I do. 😂

Okay it’s REALLY cold out there compared to anything I’m used to (I guess that’s true for most of us right now) and I’m really struggling to keep up my morning exercise. I’m supposed to be on my way to Yoga right now and I’m in the bed. They do have another yoga class at 5pm but it’s at a different location and it’s a further drive from me so idk if I will actually go to that one either. I love the cold weather in general but it’s not good for this journey. Makes me want to just stay in bed and eat. I have been doing my walk later in the day at least but I really enjoy my Yoga once I get there. I already wish I had just got my butt up and went.

Maybe think about buying a treadmill or other indoor exercise equipment for cold days; they have inexpensive or used one that's you can get at reason amounts. I have a treadmill and it get used in the winter and in the summer because I'm in Texas and our summers are over 100 degrees most of the time.

Oh my gosh I get this so much!! I get SO cold. My favorite Christmas gift is a heated blanket my Mom got me with two remotes as it is Queen sized - I set that thing on a toasty 118 degrees and will say pulling myself out of that warmth and into the days has been a real struggle! These cold temperatures are absolutely an obstacle for me to want to set foot outside and my joints are all achy. Makes me wish I gad scheduled my surgery for the Spring! I do have an exercise mat and an exercise bike but I have to work around the holiday clutter in the spare room still. Keeping up activity is a true challenge when the cold hurts my face. What warm comfort dishes have you have that are high Protein? It's hard not to eyeball the calories vs protein content of things like Soup and chilli these days for me.

I love comfort food when its cold so I want all the Soups, stews and chilis. I also bought a Shepherd's Pie tonight for dinner, which I love, so I'm excited for that!

Oh wow. I would never leave the house in the summer. I’m in Florida and it’s hot enough here but I don’t think I’ve ever seen 100. I actually do walk inside my house a lot of the time with temp extremes but just back and forth from one end of the house to the other. Kinda boring, but I usually call my mom or listen to music. She fell and broke her ankle and is pretty much in a wheelchair other than her physical therapy so she’s bored and don’t mind the entertainment 😂 We really don’t turn on the heat. We have an electric fireplace that takes the chill off but my husband is in the put some clothes on camp and honestly, it really is OK because if we turn on the heat, we usually don’t get it right because it doesn’t get cold here that often so most times we end up having to turn the air on because we make it too hot. Well I’ve always been fine with this plan but I think with less insulation and the colder winter we are having it’s just a lot worse. I mean it’s usually no less than like 67 or 68 inside but in the morning that feels so cold to me. I do need to consider getting a treadmill though I’ve not thought of getting a used one, but you just reminded me that there is a place near me that sells used I bet they might have one. I have one of those under dusk ones, but it’s just very narrow and if you try to wear like a pair of walking sneakers, it’s real easy to step off the side and I’m scared. I’m gonna trip and fall one of these times. I need one that’s like normal width you know

Most of the comfort foods that I prefer are not exactly on plan. Chili or chicken chili are nice for the cold weather though and they’re on my plan. I also like quiche. I found one at Walmart by the deli that is made with egg whites so it’s less calories. Of course it’s still a little high in fat because it’s got full milk cheese but considering it’s a prepared food that’s fairly inexpensive It’s reasonable macros. I definitely have to be sure to have like just a Protein Shake for Breakfast and then something really reasonable for dinner like chicken breast or fish with veggies. Anyways, if you consider it what I do is just slice it up while it’s cold and then heat one slice in the oven at a time so it’s nice and crispy and good. I’ve not tried freezing yet cause I’m not sure if it’s safe to freeze eggs like that. I know you can’t freeze raw eggs but I don’t know about eggs that are in something. Seems like the texture would not be the same. Anyways, I hope everyone. Find a way to stay relatively warm and not let this cold weather mess us up too bad.

I did find one trick that I actually was doing before, but for some reason I stopped is to take my shower after my morning exercise if I’m just staying home and I’m not gonna get sweaty or at night if I need another one and put on my exercise clothes to sleep in. That way when I wake up in the morning, I don’t have to shower and I don’t have to change clothes which is my biggest obstacle when I’m cold. So far I haven’t done my 9 AM class with this method during this cold spell, but I am hoping that it will work on Friday. 🤞

I have a full size treadmill with bars because I would also trip and fall, if there was nothing to support/catch myself when I trip. It is definitely worth it. I just know for some people a smaller one or one that will fit under a bed is more practical.

I always get so cold after I work out if I'm still wearing sweaty clothes, so I almost always have to shower after I cool down. I feel like showering for me in the winter is the one time I am truly warm (I take boiling hot showers)!

Oh yea. Well I never did like to shower on the cold winter days because my wet hair makes me cold afterwards but they are usually only a handful of really cold days abs then we have a warm day after. This year I don’t have as much insulation or hair for this freakishly cold winter. The hair thing works out for after the shower but your head does get cold even inside at like 69 without hair it’s weird. I used to always be hot and 69 felt good but not this year. I lost 85 pounds and all my hair and of course it’s would be our coldest winter in 20 years. Triple whammy. 😂. I guess at least in the summer I won’t be so hot 🤷‍♀️

i am definitely gonna talk to my hubby about converting our guest room into an exercise room. We haven’t had anyone over in years and I really would like to get a normal sized treadmill the one I have works for space but not for my clumbsy nature. I could get some shallow shelves and keep all the weights and yoga mats and all that in there too.

This coming Friday is my 6 month “surgiversary” and I’m 174 today (down 84 pounds from 258 pre-pre op diet so technically 6.5 months next week I guess). I totally thrilled with my loss so far. I feel good and I’m relatively happy with the way I look, but the anniversary is making me look at the numbers. Does anyone know when they calculate BMI if we should go by our young adult BMI or our current one. I mean our bones still weigh the same as our tallest height I would assume but I have shrunk at least an inch. I am just curious to know when I will reach a “normal” BMI. I went from 40.4 to 27.3. I’m getting close 🎉

First of all, congrats on your amazing progress! 🎉🎉 You're doing incredible, and hitting 6 months with such a huge loss is definitely something to celebrate!

About your BMI question, BMI is always calculated based on current height and weight, not your tallest height. While bones do have weight, the difference from losing an inch in height isn’t usually significant enough to impact BMI drastically. So, if you’ve shrunk, your BMI would be based on your new height. That being said, BMI is just a tool—it doesn’t account for muscle, bone density, or body composition, so don’t stress too much about the exact number!

I can totally relate to the excitement (and overanalyzing) as I’m coming up on my 6-month “surgiversary” on February 14th! ❤️ I started at 109.5 kg (241.5 lbs) and now I’m 84.2 kg (185.7 lbs)—which means I’ve lost 25.3 kg (55.8 lbs) so far. Like you, I feel great, but seeing these milestones makes me reflect on the numbers too. It’s such a wild ride!

You're so close to a “normal” BMI—27.3 is amazing! Keep going, and I have no doubt you’ll get there soon. Let’s Celebrate our progress and keep pushing forward! 🎉💪

Lately, I've been eating quite comfortably, and honestly, it's scaring me. I had a week where the scale didn’t move, and just when I started panicking, boom – down 1.7 kg the next week. But here’s the thing... every time I feel confident in my weight loss, I start getting too comfortable, and that makes me so uneasy.

And the weirdest part? I’ve become a sweet girl! Like, I actually crave sugar now, which I never used to before. WHY?! 😭 There are no actual signs of regain, but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t be worried, right? My brain is panicking even though nothing bad is happening (yet).

I have a friend who also had gastric bypass, and she keeps telling me:
👉 “Don’t worry, you will lose weight no matter what – that’s what bypass does.”

But how true is this??! 😭😭 I feel like I can’t fully trust it, and I don’t want to get too relaxed and regret it later. Someone please tell me I’m not losing my mind. 😣

Congratulations on your loss. I was a savory girl Lee bariatric world and post sleeve I became a sweet girl too. Then post SAFI that went away but has started to come back. I think MAYBE it’s just our bodies wanting carbs and sweet food is usually the absolute highest in carbs so the quickest way to get them. I did not have the bypass but I don’t think your friend is correct about eating whatever you want. I know that was for sure not true for the me with the sleeve. I started at 235, lost down to 168 then gained it all back plus some to 258 and was still gaining when I started the preop diet for my revision.

I have also heard plenty of regain stories on here about the bypass. Now, does it malabsorb some of your food, absolutely. So if you were like 900 pounds before it’s possible you would stay a bit smaller just because you pretty much already ate all you wanted volume and calories wise before and the malabsorption would in theory make you weight a bit less if you ate the same exact food, but it would only be a bit less anyways and who of us wants that. . As far as a more common starting weight I really don’t think so because even at our high weights we still weren’t eating absolutely all we would have liked to or we could have and if we ate any and everything we wanted, even with some calories not absorbing that’s still probably giving our bodies more than we were eating before.

I do know from experience that what fuel I put into my body changed how I feel, though, so even if I could get away with eating anything I wanted cosmetically, I know that I wouldn’t feel as good as I do when I eat a balanced diet and keep up my activity. That processed junk that most of us used to eat all the time is not good for us and it doesn’t give your bodies what it needs to run efficiently.

Another thing to keep in mind is that we are still pretty early out to be relaxing too much. Most people have a 10–15 pound bounce back even if they keep working at it. I don’t know about you but I’ve still got more that I want to lost. I definitely don’t want to be bouncing back!!

for the sweet cravings try the sugar free popsicles again. They can trick my brain sometimes and others i Have fruit. I figure calorie wise they may be more calories but at least it’s not added sugar. I try to avoid that as much as possible because that makes me have more cravings the next day and for like a week.
