Just finished my 4 months app! Doc is pleased with my steady loss 21 kg in 4 months.. and he was encouraging me to basically practice good and healthy habits to sustain it. And hoping I'll be a "normal" human being and live life while my tool is supporting it. I'm excited and proud

Not only did we have surgery at about the same time, but we started at a pretty close weight and have lost the same amount (I had to google how many lbs was 21 kg; It's 46 lbs, which is where I'm at) so we seem to be losing weight at about the same rate. I definitely have noticed the weight coming off but it does suck sometimes to lose weight slower than other people. I'm glad your dr was supportive of how things have been going.

I feel like Christmas has been harder than Halloween and Thanksgiving as far as making healthy choices. I think Halloween, I still wasn't eating completely normal so it helped me avoid candy. Thanksgiving, I don't really like pie so that helped. But Christmas, there have been all types of goodies around (including the baked goods I made for my neighbors) that its easy to take a piece of a cookie or a little chocolate and not think much of it. I for sure eating less than I would have in the past and only taking a 1/3 or 1/2 of a cookie still feels like a win, but I hope I can kick this habit after Christmas, because I don't want to get too comfortable again with grabbing sweets when I'm craving one.

I think the trick for me is going to be to wait until the actual holiday to have one cookie instead of having them for an entire season. Someone told me a long time ago if you just have desert or cake for holidays and various special occasions that’s still like twice a month. Maybe if you are in maintenance and do a small piece that would be okay but for weight loss that is definitely still too often.

It sounds like we’re on a pretty similar journey! It’s definitely encouraging to know others are losing at the same rate—it keeps things in perspective. I get what you mean about the weight loss feeling slow compared to others, though. It can be frustrating at times, but progress is progress, and our bodies are doing amazing things.

The fact that you’re eating significantly less than before surgery shows you’ve come a long way. And I totally get wanting to reset after the holidays. Just keep reminding yourself why you’re on this journey, and once the holiday season is over, it’ll be easier to get back into your routine. You’ve got this, and it’s okay to allow yourself some grace during the holidays. Every little choice you make is still a step forward! 💪🎄

I completely agree with that perspective—keeping Desserts for special occasions definitely makes them feel more meaningful and helps with staying on track. For me, I have desserts every now and then but in very small quantities. I really want to practice normal behavior and not create habits that are just for now. Whatever I’m doing now, I want to be able to do it forever!

I’m feeling really low today and just needed to vent. I think it might be PMS, but I feel like I overate, and now I feel awful about it. No matter how much I told myself to stop, I just couldn’t. It’s not even about physical hunger—I just felt this uncontrollable urge to keep eating

Now, I’m sitting here feeling bloated and disappointed in myself. I know one bad day doesn’t ruin progress, but it’s hard to shake the guilt. Has anyone else been through this? How do you deal with overeating, especially when hormones are making everything worse?

My body punished me in the toilet and I weighed myself today n i gained 800lbs .. I know I didn't eat enough to gain but I just pancied and now I'm basically starving myself. The thing is I noticed, whenever I feel "skinny" or someone tells me I go into " I am skinny gal" and I can eat anything i want. I've always had this mindset whenever I lose weight I feel entitled to eat more. God

@Justarwaxx I'm sorry you are struggling right now. I can definitely relate; with Christmas and also recently having my period, I overate, especially sweets. It happens. You have to remember that you are fighting years of bad eating habits and those aren't just going to change overnight because you had surgery. I know for me it helps, that even if I have made bad eating choices, I still log my food and feel better seeing that it's still not over 2000 calories a day, which in theory means I'm still below anything that would make me gain weight. It's not helpful to shame spiral, because there is no lesson learned in shame.

You are okay. And tomorrow is another day and another chance to make better choices. I hope you are feeling better now.

I don’t know about you but pre WLS when I was eating bad I would not get on the scale and it spiraled way further out of control because I basically ignored my changes in eating as they gradually got worse and worse. You didn’t do that, though!! You got on that scale and took accountability. As females our bodies are designed to pack on pounds and hormones make things even harder. You are not the only one that has times of the month that their bodies make them want to eat more. I think all we can do is give ourselves a little forgiveness if we slip sometimes. Maybe try your free foods. Did you have those on your pre op diet. I had several on the list but the ones I recall were sugar free popsicles, pickles and lettuce. If I was hungry, I was told I was allowed to eat as many of those foods as I wanted. And to this day I still consider them to be free foods. Those are the only calories that I do not log on my calorie app. I allow myself to have them when I am hungry so I never feel like I am starving. Just maybe not getting what I would prefer to eat.

Hey! I'm in the same boat, as far as weight loss. I'm now having trouble trying not to snack at bedtime. I'm also trying not to graze over the holidays. Trying to either not eat or find healthier choices.

Sometimes I just want a taste of something. Thoughts?

Some people can just have a taste but I learned after my sleeve that I am not one of them. I can’t have one slice of pizza or one brownie. Even if I manage to have just one that day I will crave more unhealthy stuff the following days. At bedtime I have been doing the sugar free popsicles. That seems to be working. If you have actual hunger then something with Protein would be a better option. Like a Greek yogurt maybe. Can you budget the calories so you can do that. I think the triple zero is only like 80 calories. That should keep you full through the night though.

Well today was round 4 of my chemo and immunotherapy and steroids, etc. Messing with my tastes a bit on certain stuff Things don’t taste gross just not good. I came home and i did chicken breast with a little ceaser side salad and a tiny bit of spinach tortolini. I know that last one was not ideal but it made the meal go down easier if that makes any sense. I guess it’s a balance for now to get the rest of what I need in nutrition wise and it was cheese filled so still Protein. 🤷‍♀️ I am about to go eat some mixed fruit now for my snack. I also did five miles walking and tomorrow morning I have yoga. I think that getting my nutrition and exercise is really helping my body deal with all of this because I did the stringer one up front so it’s been two months and i don’t have alot of side effects yet. The doctors are pretty amazed. Knock on wood I am able To keep it up because I had to do that BRAT diet for a week and I could feel myself getting weaker and my sleep was off and I wasn’t wanting to exercise. I am REALLY trying to keep to my habits as best as I can. I hope everyone else is doing well with juggling their bariatric journey with “life” as well.

You're doing an amazing job balancing everything! Your meal choices sound great—sometimes a little extra carb, like the tortellini, can make all the difference in getting the nutrition you need. Carbs aren't the devil; they fuel your body, especially when you're staying active like you are. I'm so glad you're not experiencing side effects and that your habits are helping you through this. Sending you love, prayers, and strength—you're truly inspiring! Keep it up!

It was so weird though that BRAT diet is Bananas, Rice (white), applesauce and Toast (white) so basically carbs and not Protein and not much else. Well between the diarrhea which is why I was on the diet and the food without any nutrients I was getting weaker by the day. I was staying pretty hydrated so I think that majority of it was just the drastic change in nutrition. Just one week with All them carbs and I was up hungry several times a night (craving sugar), lazy and fatigued all day and it was just snowballing by the day. I don’t ever want to go back to feeling that way!! I can’t believe that was our normal for so long and we had no idea how much better we were supposed to be feeling. The nurse is the one who told me to do that diet and I questioned it with my history but she insisted but as soon as I seen the Dr she said she never would’ve put me on that diet and took me off. I hate when the nurses overstep their authority and won’t just ask the darn Dr. Anyways, it’s a warning for me about how that diet makes my body feel and I don’t want to do it again.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
