Hey everyone! I wanted to share a few updates as I approach my 2-month post-op milestone.

I missed my period in September, but I think it’s finally here today. It’s still a bit uncertain, but I’m starting to wonder if this is connected to my weight loss journey.

Yesterday, I did my first aerobics class—LBT (legs, bum, and tums)! It was a fantastic workout, even though I was the slowest in the class. The trainer was super supportive, giving me different modifications to make things manageable. My knees were definitely feeling it, but I can't wait for the day I can work out without pain. Today, I'm planning to try aqua aerobics unless my period decides to make a dramatic appearance (fingers crossed it doesn’t!).

I’m really excited for my 2-month post-op appointment at the obesity center. I’ve been taking pictures of all my meals, and I’m looking forward to getting some feedback on my food choices and progress.

Good for you, that LBT workout sounds like it’s would KICK MY BUM!! I’m quickly learning in the fitness world that is considered a good thing, lol. I have a flier for a group fitness class that I was warned as a beginner would kick my butt too but the instructor said I’m welcome to come and do what I can. I still have that darn blister so I’ve stuck to my walking and yoga for this week because I know that sneakers will just aggravate it. I love that your instructor was able to give you modifications. That’s awesome.

i feel the same way with the yoga. I told my husband that right now I’m not very good at all but I can already tell that it is going to help me tremendously and I can’t wait until I am able to do a bit more of the poses and be a little less clumsy going from one to the next. We will get there. The important thing for now is that whether we are in step with the rest of them or how, we are moving our bodies. Just moving is good for weight loss and cardio.

If I had to guess I would say that the period thing is related to your surgery. It makes a lot of changes and hormones are not left out but if it’s possible you’re pregnant, I would do a test just in case. The surgery and the weight loss do also cause you to be more likely to get pregnant. There are a handful of women on here who got pregnant pretty early out.

Well, I really hope you do get to try your Water aerobics class today, that sounds like alot of fun.

Haha, yeah, that LBT workout does kick my bum, but like you said, in the fitness world, that’s a good thing! 😅 Your group fitness class sounds like it will be a great challenge too, but it’s awesome that the instructor is so welcoming and encouraging. You’ll be surprised how much you can do! The blister sounds annoying though, sticking to walking and yoga is a smart move until it heals up. I’ve been thinking about trying yoga myself, but I know I’m so stiff! Still, it seems like a great way to get more flexible and improve balance over time.

As for the pregnancy thing, oh my gosh, you made me freak out for a second! 😳 I really don’t think it’s that because I’ve seen signs of my period, but still, please no! 😅 You’re right about the surgery affecting everything, including hormones. I think it’s just part of the whole adjustment process. Hopefully, it will all settle soon.

Funny you mentioned balance. The first day we didn’t do nearly as much with balance as we did yesterday. I guess she switches it up a bit. First day we did work with rollers but yesterday we did all this balancing on one foot and then doing different poses while balancing. I was a mess falling all over the place, but I kept trying. I told her afterwards that I have lost 45 pounds recently so my body is not only bigger and having a hard time balancing but also adjusting to a big change. I said do just ignore me falling all over the place, I will get there. She chuckled and said I was doing fine. She reminded me that most of the other women in my class have been there for over a year. Some did yoga and law here before that and I was only on day two. Sometimes I get a little over zealous.

I am just so incredibly proud of us for just doing these things anyways. The only way to get good at anything is to first get started. I have always been so embarrassed to not be good at something but this time I just don’t care. I am going to do it and I am going to get good, or at least skinny to the point that I look cute trying 😉

Hi all,

I had revision from sleeve to bypass on August 26th (5 weeks ago), the surgery itself went well, no complications or issues (so far - touch wood!), but I do have a few side effects that I'm concerned about. I had the revision to fix the severe acid reflux/GERD that I was dealing with from the sleeve and to repair a hiatal hernia - the acid is gone!! (I'm so happy about that!) - but, in its place I am now dealing with Constipation (with crippling pain), constant stomach cramping (and gurgling, so much gurgling!), and terrible nausea (making it hard to consume anything, but especially hard to drink any Protein Drinks or zero sugar drinks).

Per my surgeon I am taking a stool softener 3 times per day, plus drinking Smooth Move tea at night before bed, and they have me on Zofran to help with the nausea.

TMI - my stools went from an olive green, almost clay-like consistency, to a pale beige that floats (in a matter of a few days - keep in mind that in the last 5 weeks I've had maybe 4 or 5 bowel movements). I can eat some food (I'm on week 2 of the soft portion of the post-op diet) without needing Zofran, but if I want to have any Protein drinks I HAVE to have the Zofran.

I feel so disheartened. I feel like I traded one problem for another, even though I know in my heart and my head that things will get better and I will find a good balance, I'm really struggling. I started back to work yesterday and I find myself disinterested in being out in the workforce anymore (I'm 53, way too early to retire), I just want to be at home in my bed cuddling my pets in an almost constant state of near-crying. I am on antidepressants, I don't feel like the surgery has affected the medications in anyway, overall I feel good mentally, I'm just not used to struggling this much physically and I'm at a loss as to what to do. I've been in near-daily contact with the surgeon's office and they are super supportive and have been trying to work with me, but I don't want to become "that patient" that sucks up all of their time and patience because "my tummy doesn't feel good". LOL You know what I mean?

Anyway - not sure if I'm just looking to vent or looking for suggestions or what, I think I just needed to be able to say it all out loud because I can't have these convos with my family or friends without sounding like a constant whiner. LOL

Did you tell your team about the changes in your stool. It sounds like they are trying to help with the nausea and the Constipation but that sounds like something they should be aware of. Especially if it’s more than once. It could be something simple like one of the meds you are taking causing it but the doctor will know. If you are able to eat some foods, what about high Protein yogurts or unflavored Protein Powder added to things? Also, if you are not getting enough fluids it could actually be causing your nausea. It’s sort of a catch 22. The more nausea you feel the less you drink but the more dehydrated you get the more nauseous. Do you have other signs of dehydration like darker urine? And have to talked to the Doctor or NP or just the front desk. Maybe schedule an appointment if not and just be sure that the medical team is getting all of the details because sometimes when trying to type it out in an email or whatever things get left out. It’s okay to be the squeaky wheel right now, you are struggling. Their job is not just to chop you up and put your back together. It’s to get you through the healing process too. That includes getting you back to being able to eat and function normally. You will get there. ❤️

Way to go! Great job getting out there, doing the class! I'm still on the fence about organized group exercise - I tend to be excessively self conscious so don't feel ready for that - yet. I do have a friend who keeps inviting me to Jazzercise, which I would love to do - one day. For now I'll keep walking and using my exercise bike in addition to the stretches I do in the morning and before/after. Also - about the missed period - same! I didn't have mine last month and have been wondering if it was related to my surgery; seems so!

If your friend is cheering you on, ask her to chat with you while you walk or do your bike. I know I said it but that’s how I got out going around the neighborhood which was my first baby step towards doing a group class. I was already out and about in my exercise clothes so I was one step closer to feeling comfortable being in the the group. The other day I was in my exercise clothes after yoga, all sweaty even because yes I do get sweaty even though I’m the only one who seems to. Anyways, I stopped at UPS to do my Amazon returns on my way home. In the past I wouldn’t have dared go in like that but I’m kinda getting past worrying about what people think. It was either do that or double back after I went home and showered but I only had so much time to shower and eat and I didn’t want to be late to my crochet group just because of not wanting to go in like that. I will keep a brush in the car for future incidents though, sweaty and disheveled is a little worse. Anyways, you will get there. Baby steps.

Way to go! It’s awesome that you’re staying active with walking, the bike, and your stretches—that’s a great routine! I totally get what you mean about group exercise. I’m super self-conscious too, but I just fake it till I make it, haha! I try to get into that “main character” mindset, which really helps. And honestly, it’s so weird because EVERYONE has self-doubt, even those super fit girls we see. They all have something they don’t like when they look in the mirror, so I think a big part of the journey is learning to love ourselves along the way. Hopefully, we can reach that point together!

Haha, no worries! I’ve definitely got the signs of my period, just waiting for the volcano to start 😅.

That balance work sounds challenging but amazing! It’s so cool that you’re sticking with it, especially with all those changes your body is adjusting to. And you’re right, we’re only going to get better by showing up and trying! I totally relate to being embarrassed about not being good at something, but this time I’m also like, who cares.

I actually just booked a super stretch class that’s like yoga, so I’m excited to give it a try—and, of course, laugh at myself along the way!

I also got a Fit watch to track EVERYTHING.. i really love this new ME

Hey Christine,

First off, you're doing amazing. I can completely understand how frustrating it must feel to have gone through this big revision surgery, gotten rid of one problem (yay for no more acid reflux!), only to face these new challenges. It’s not whining at all—you’ve been through a lot, and your body is still adjusting. It’s totally okay to feel disheartened sometimes, but just remember, you’re already so strong for getting this far!

The side effects you’re dealing with sound so tough, especially the stomach cramping, nausea, and the Constipation (crippling pain is no joke). It’s good that you’re in contact with your surgeon’s office and that they’re supportive because it’s absolutely their job to help you through this—don’t worry about being "that patient"!

The fact that you’re sticking to the plan, taking your meds, and pushing through, even when it’s so hard physically, is a huge victory in itself. It’s natural to feel overwhelmed, but you’re not alone, and things will get better as your body finds that balance. Keep going, take things one day at a time, and give yourself all the grace you need to heal. You’ve got this!

I love my fitness watch. I had to get a new phone because mine was years and years and years old and the battery had to be charged twice in a day sometimes so of course it always takes forever and they had to do something with my watch to take it out of the old phone and put it into the new one. . Well I wasn’t going to reach my goal for standing as many hours during the day as I wanted to, so I literally got up out of bed and walked to the other end of the house and back so I could get mine final hour I needed. My husband was like you have got to be kidding me I said you don’t understand. I’m scared if I start slipping then I’m gonna break my habits plus I like to see when I hit all my goals. I gotta do it.

I really hope you like your stretch class. I’ve been doing this one stretch. I asked the instructor after the class what I could do to make my legs a little more flexible for like bending to reach your toes because I’m nowhere close. Well, she told me to sit on the floor with your one leg out and the other leg folded in and use a towel to pull yourself just a little closer each time towards bending down to your toes. I’m not sure if I’m describing it well so don’t do that without asking your instructor first but I’ve been doing that some at home. Not as much as I’d like to because I have hard floors and I have to keep getting the mat out

Although I’m going to some thrift stores this morning with a friend, I’m hoping I will find an extra yoga mat for cheap that I can just leave set up at home. This healthy fitness stuff is like a whole new life. It’s a lot of changed but I’m loving them too!! Oh, and some of the girls in another thread told me that it sounded like my leggings were too big on me because they were rolling down in the waist when I was spending over in my yoga class and they suggested I try a smaller size well, I ordered them and they look so small to me, but I put them on and they fit perfectly. So I’m officially a size down. I mean, I probably was a size down before this if we’re talking about numbered sizes but this is like small medium large sizes which you know between the extended sizes there’s bigger gaps than there are between the smaller sizes.

Omg I scored. No yoga mat and I didn’t find much in my size for cheap but I did find it in the next size down. I got 2 pairs of leggings (nice ones that I like with the pockets and the high waist), 5 pairs of athletic shorts that are that moisture wicking material, one T-shirt and one dressier shirt, and one pair of comfy pants to wear around the house that should fit now. All of that for $19!! One pair of the shorts still had the price tag on them and they were $26 and I know them leggings aren’t cheap either. Any one of them items would’ve been more than $19 and I got 10 items. It’s so much fun to find the deals and was extra fun today to see the cute stuff in the smaller sizes to look forward to. I think I’m gonna get a couple storage totes and just buy stuff when I find it at the thrifts and toss in there then go through it ever so often. Definitely check out the secondhand stores if you can. Women are always going up and down with their sizes so they have so many nice clothes.

I’m really frustrated and need some help. My dietitian was sick this week when we were supposed to have our appt (not frustrated at her, people get sick).

What I’m frustrated about is that my appt was on Tuesday and Wednesday was my 5 week out mark, so we were already pretty much a week behind. I want to start on soft foods and have tried a few, but I’m also nervous because usually the dietitian usually gives me a food plan and foods I should and should not eat.

What did you guys start soft foods with so I can feel more confident trying a few more things until our next appt on next Tuesday? I have tried hard boiled eggs, lentil Soup, and tuna/chicken from a can.

My NP said anything you can easily cut with the side of your fork is soft. Avoid fibrous veggies and stuff with skins which are harder to cut with the side of your fork so that should be a given. Add sauces and gravies to meats if they don’t go down well. Just chew chew chew and try a couple of bites and wait a bit then go back if you’re not sure. Try one new food at a time so if something doesn’t agree with you it’s easy to pinpoint the issue. Cut things into tiny pieces too.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
