I was reading a few posts and saw that some people were eating creamy Soups on the full liquid diet. Is that allowed? I'm soooooo tired of the Protein Shakes already!

Also, any recommendations on a non-flavored Protein Powder to add to that Soup (assuming it is allowed)?

Every program is different, so you need to reach out to your surgeon's office for their rules.

I was allowed Tomato Soup and I added unflavored Syntrax Nectar Medical Protein Powder. I also enjoyed the Bariatric Fusion chicken Soup flavored "shake". Celebrate makes one, too, and Unjury has a really nice beef one. A warning, though. I didn't like them at all a few days post-surgery as they tasted like chemicals to me. But pre-op, they were a godsend.

I agree talk to your team because some Soups may be considered a purée. And if you are allowed soups make sure it can go though a pretty fine strainer. Many soups have little bits of meat or vegetables.

Ask about bone broths & consommés too as they are allowed on many plans. They may say no to creamy Soups (I used to dilute mine to make them thinner) but yes to clear soups like Bone Broth.

All programs are different. My program allows cream Soups and other blended soups(fat free lower sodium) , strained and thinned out with Water so that there are no chunks. I can also have yogurt not fruit or added stuff in it. Do not use the Isopure unflavored. It tastes very flavored! And its gross. I can not mask the flavor at all with anything!!!! I cant wait for my follow up on Thursday, hopefully I get to move on to what my program calls “soft and mushy” foods

I’d suggest purchasing a Soup that has Protein. Most protein powders do not mix well with hot Water and changes the texture of the soup. I’d aim for a Bone Broth as arabesque mentioned. They also make Bariatric Soups that might be worth a shot.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
