Has anyone else had nausea after drinking Water? I'm creeping on 4 weeks PO and over this last weekend I dealt with nausea after drinking water??

Yes, its fairly common! Try taking smaller sips and space it out a bit more. If it continues I'd contact your bariatric surgeons office and see what they have to say. Also, before WLS did Water do this? Water always made me a bit nauseated, so I add flavor which helps.

Good luck, I hope you this is your only bump on your journey!

Yeah i'm 4 mths post op from the modified duodenal switch and I have struggled with Water nausea and issues with water tasting gross/weird to me. I feel like my taste buds have changed a bit after surgery and I can't stand the taste of water filtered from the tap anymore. I am trying to find a bottled water than I can tolerate, but isn't too expensive. Thankfully I tried gatorade zero and that has helped me, but I am STILL struggling to drink 30+ ounces a day. Have you tried flavoring your water? I just got gatorade zero powder to cut down on the extra plastic and to try to drink more water. Hopefully that does the trick!

Water can almost seem ‘heavy’ to drink after surgery and make you feel nauseous or just generally blah. I found switching up what I drank so I wasn’t only drinking water helpful. I drank green tea (herbal is good too - peppermint or ginger may help with general nausea too) and I used to let sparkling water go flat & drink a glass of that throughout the day (liked the mineral taste) as well as plain water. Often had two different drinks going at the same time to mix it up. Others find adding a flavour with water helpful (a little citrus, or berries or a low/no cal flavour additive like crystal light).

Others may have other suggestions of fluids you could add to your daily routine you could try.

It does get easier to drink water but it may take a little while. Just depends on your tummy.

I’m 6 days post op and i’ve found that warm liquids (teas, infusions or broths) are the only forms of hydration i can take. Still Water cold or room temp just feels heavy on my stomach. Granted i’m
Still very swollen from the surgery but warm drinks seem to soothe me so much more. - they also are easier to physically drink like i did before sipping tea is the norm. Sipping water is a conscious effort so takes more work if that makes sense.

Thanks for all the responses! Glad to know I'm not alone in this! Today and yesterday seem to be better. I've been using MIO with Vitamins, tangerine flavor, and it's AMAZING! I highly recommend using this flavor if you're an orange-head like me! Any MIO flavor is good though...it doens't leave that weird after taste and is 0 cal.

I agree with the others - I found warm liquids miles easier to drink a few weeks post op. Glad you're finding your groove OP - so much adjusting to do along the way but it's so worth it!

It just goes to show everyone is different, warm Water makes me nauseated. I prefer (as does my stomach) either hot or cold drinks!

For me, drinking warm anything is a no go. Always has been. My drinks need to be hot or cold. No in-between. I absolutely DETEST plain Water, so I use the sugar free flavorings and that's been a game changer for me. I also drink sugar free mango splash juice (found at WalMart) on occasion, just to change things up. I absolutely LOVE it.

keep trying different ways of drinking Water until you find one that you can tolerate...and even when you do find one way that works, you find that later on it doesn't and you need to find another type/kind.

I started off with room temp water for about a week (just worked out that way cuz i carried around a water bottle that i took microsips from and it just ended up being room temp lol)

then switched to warm/hot water for about 2 months cuz that's all i could stand. i found i could drink much much more at a hotter temp vs cold.

then warm/hot fell out of favour, and i HAD to have it ice, ice cold...with like crushed ice in it even (not cubed, CRUSHED!). this went on for another couple months.

then i was all about carbonated water (like perrier), and i drank just that until i reached goal and for several months afterwards.

now i don't seem to have a glaring preference, but i do seem to lean towards ice water, if i had to pick one.

It’s almost like the plain Water feels heavy in your tummy. I was the same. Try drinking water at different temperatures or adding a little flavour to do it like a squeeze of lemon or lome, or flavours like crystal lite. You can also drink green or herbal teas. I found they were very tolerable & soothing. Ginger tea may help if your tummy is a little upset or queasy.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
