Is anyone out there like me?

I had VSG surgery feb 2022. Started at 21.9 stone pre LRD diet. 20.9 stone after LRD , lowest after surgery 17 stone.

 I lost weight the first year and then gained 2 stone currently sitting at 19 stone.

Since jan 2023 the scale has not moved once , up and down by maybe 1 or 2 pounds but the scale is not moving. At all.

I can count calories for a whole month and nothing. I can eat **** for a whole month .. and nothing.

nothing makes my scales move and hasn’t for over a year. You can only imagine my frustration.

is anyone else having this issue and if so PLEASE tell me how I can start losing weight and making the scales move again.

we can help figure stuff out, but my first question would be: have you spoken to your team or nutritionist/dietician about your situation and concerns?

my second question would be: do you know how many calories you consume a day on average?

3rd question: how tall are u?

Hi!

I have only spoken to them once since my surgery as I told them I was not losing weight and kept having issues with low blood sugar after surgery which I never had before.

they advised I upped my Protein and then stopped responding.

im 5’5. Daily calories unknown I eat whatever I want whenever I want as it makes no difference to the scale and hasn’t for over a year.

I calorie counted back in January this year, I track everything down to oils when cooking , weighing out everything etc I was between 1600-1800. Would still be hungry on these calories aswell.

before surgery when dieting previous years I was on 1800 and lost 5 stone in 4 months. Now no matter what I do or track or eat nothing works?!

It takes more calories to run your body at a higher weight & fewer to run your body at a lower weight. So yes being able to lose at a similar calorie intake at a higher weight but then being unable to lose still eating the same at a lower weight is to be expected. It’s like reaching maintenance.

Remember too,1800 calories is 1800 calories regardless if it comes from a burger & fries or three nutrient dense healthy meals. The quality of the food matters for the health benefits & ensuring your body functions most effectively.

I’d hammer your surgeon & dietician for help & answers. Maybe GLP 1 meds may be of help or a revision.

If my maths is correct, you’ve lost 8 stone in total? That’s great! Don’t forget to Celebrate that.

I will definitely get onto the team and surgeon!

Start weight before surgery was 21.9 , 20.9 after LRD before surgery. Lowest after surgery 17 stone, currently at 19.

After surgery total loss was 3 stone 9lbs which I think isn’t great surgery was feb 2022 got to 17 stone august 2022. Then gained now stalled at 19 stone for nearly a year.

Did you go with a company/ nhs hospital in the UK ? I am surprised to hear you are getting no help if that's the case. If your surgery was abroad then you need to tell them if they don't respond to your questions then you will be leaving them a truthful bad review. People are really searching these sites for honest feedback and will take note of yours. If its a UK company you need to email the hospital director and ask why you are getting no help.

No one can do this without the help of a team, its a huge change for all of us to master, both body and mind.

I am maintaining now on 1500 calories a day which I log every meal. I lost weight on anything around 1200 - 1400 calories a day building in 60 grams of Protein a day. To loose now you may struggle because your hunger is back. I would imagine that it will be hard to go back to protein and vegetables when you are hungry, leaving the filling carbs off your plate.

When I first had my sleeve surgery, I was losing pretty rapidly. BUT, I had a LOT to loose. If you look in my signature, you can see my stats. The bigger you are, the faster the weight comes off. It also depends on what you eat, how often you eat, and how you move your body. The more you work out, the more calories you need. The less you work out, the less you need. If your body thinks it's starving, it'll hold on to every single bit of fat, every calorie, to protect you from starving to death.

Maybe think about walking more, swimming, not so much heavy work outs. Lower your calories (try going back to your post surgery calorie amounts of 1000 - 1300). Look at your sugar, salt, carb, and fat intake and start adjusting/lowering it. Are you getting enough Protein? That should be key in all this. And hit your Fluid intake. Minimum of 64oz per day. For now, limit your alcohol and soda intake, if you drink either of those. Kind of do a reset on your body AND mind and get yourself use to doing things the post surgery way again.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
