I HIGHLY recommend trying Mirilax. It's always been a heaven sent for me! It takes time, up to 3 days for some people but it works without cramping and diarrhea. I do a cap and 1/2 in about 8-10oz of liquid every day until i go, ususally about 2 days...hot cocoa was my go-to for liquid. I hope this helps!

There are quite a few rx options to get you to go. Once you do go I recommend taking a soluble Fiber daily to prevent this from happening again. They sell a generic for benefiber at Walmart and you just mix a spoonful into a drink. You may want to run by your team to see if they agree but it worked for me to prevent Constipation. .

for some of us it's a chronic problem. I take a capful of Miralax every morning to prevent it. Others take things like stool softeners, magnesium tablets, or Smooth Move tea. Whatever works!

My first poop was a doozy. I woke from surgery with terrible diarrhoea. After that I didn't go for 15 days. I really struggled with that one and had to manually help myself go. The Protein in the protein products make me terribly constipated. I only have them when I really need too now. It took me an age to work out what was causing it. Now I can eat fruit and veg it is easier.

Stalls and Constipation are the two things we all will get. Plenty of good advice given here. Try any and see if it works for you. As for me, at the outset it was stool softners and the costco version of benefiber.

Every morning I put a capful of Miralax in my 20oz of Water and drink that. I take Metamucil 3 in 1 fiber supplements (2 in the morning, 2 in the afternoon, and 2 at night). At night, I take 3 of the Equate brand 2 in 1 stool softener/laxative pills. And at night I take 1 digestive enzymes w/ pre and pro biotics supplement. And I always drink a MINIMUM of 64oz of fluids per day, but usually more. It took a while to get this regimen figured out, but it really works. I poo every morning. Sometimes big, sometimes medium, sometimes small. But I ALWAYS go now.

I ended up going to my GI doc and he gave me a prescription to help me go. I have to use this in addition to Miralax. Constipation has been a HUGE issue. The prescription works really well for me.

If OTC medicine doesn't work, maybe a chat with your primary doc, surgeon, or a GI doctor would benefit you.

Also, make sure you're eating enough fiber and drinking lots of hydrating fluids.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
