LilaNicole20 252 Posted March 31, 2024 You will. Ride the wave. Remember the vision you had for your future. It’s not supposed to be easy. It’s supposed to be worth it. Only time can tell. 1 summerseeker reacted to this
ShoppGirl 5,003 Posted March 31, 2024 You are just going through the tough part now. You will get through this and be happier and healthier for it. You say it’s especially bad when you take your Cipro. According to Dr google Cipro can be taken with or without food but I wonder if the 500mg is just too much on your empty stomach? Maybe you can take a smaller dose spread out or something. If it’s really bad it may be worth a call to your doctor. Definitely if you actually do vomit it up. Be certain you are getting your fluids. If not. Dehydration will definitely make you feel nauseous. If that’s the case contact your team to see if they can arrange for fluids. Your can just go to the ER but my team was able to arrange for me to get them at the hospital building but in another part of hospital than emergency. 1 1 mooonlightt and Arabesque reacted to this

JennyBeez 289 Posted March 31, 2024 I feel you. I was in a similar place last week, mentally/emotionally. You'll definitely get through this. I'm glad you're consulting your doctor tomorrow, especially if the meds are contributing to your malaise. Right now, it sounds you're in a really tough place. Between the recovery diet being restrictive and not feeling well enough to eat, it's like this viscious cycle. The drugs and lack of nutrients/calories make you feel weaker, ill, and can zap your energy so bad it's hard to force yourself to eat/drink. (Sleep all you need to though -- our bodies definitely need that for the healing process!!) In the meantime, try to remember why you decided to go on this journey. For me, I'm looking forward to less joint pain as the pounds let up, getting my diabetes and blood pressure under control, being able to keep up a little better with my active nieces. Heh, and being able to shop for clothes that make me feel good instead of making me feel hidden. Are you on any supplements? chewable Multi Vitamins and calcium/ Vitamin d3 need some time to build up in your system but are definitely helpful in feeling more alive & awake. Arabesque 7,414 Posted April 1, 2024 (edited) Just read that cipro can cause nausea & vomiting so you may be vomiting from the med or from your healing tummy being vey sensitive at the moment. Is there an alternative antibiotic you could take? Also you can take it with food so maybe take it with your last sip of shake or Soup or whatever to see if that helps. Certainly worth a conversation with your doctor. And yes it does get better. It takes a good 8 weeks to fully heal from what is a pretty major surgery. Plus you’re trying to wrap your head around all the changes & requirements of your plan. Allow yourself some grace during this time. But get used to the gurgling. Some of us continue to experience it in the long term. I say I have my own personal abdominal poltergeist rattling the chains, moaning & groaning. It’s just our digestive system working. Lily2024 136 Posted April 2, 2024 That first week I felt like a fish out of Water, it was so surreal and jarring. Not everyone feels that way, but a good number of us do and it's hard. We're here to support you and tell you that it will get better, you will feel better, and things will feel normal again once you've adjusted. This is not forever. I'm going to my 3 month post op today, I'm able to eat and feel good most of the time (When I don't eat too fast) and able to do a fairly intense daily walk for an hour as well as the normal daily activities. I'm still a bit tired, sometimes I feel emotional when I've not gotten enough nutrition or sleep, but I've learned to see the signs and take proactive measures so it really doesn't happen all that often anymore. I really started to feel better around 8 weeks, and feel much better again at 12 weeks. Right now the best thing you can do is remind yourself that this is ground zero, all the healing is ahead of you, there's a lot to learn but you will learn it as you go. 2 1 Arabesque, mooonlightt and JennyBeez reacted to this

Just this morning I was (holding my tummy and) picturing a Norse wyrm playing in my intestines. 1 Arabesque reacted to this

I suffered severely for months and got depressed but I eventually healed and can eventually eat a whole cup of delicious food without pain or nausea. You are in the forced starvation phase. It’s painful. But it will be so worthwhile in the end.
SomeBigGuy 110 Posted April 17, 2024 Congrats on the surgery and taking a huge step forward in improving your health! Also, welcome to the post-op malaise phase of the process, haha! I was there a few months ago, and I think its a rite of passage to be like "What have I done?!!" somewhere in the first 6 weeks. It does get better gradually, but the first month is the roughest. You will be able to eat "normal" foods again soon. I think I was able to eat most things again around the 3 month mark (mostly excluding carbonated drinks and alcohol). Just take your time and listen to your body. Some things will fight back, and if they do, just wait 3-5 days before trying again. I had a lot of trouble with green veggies initially, but was able to handle them around week 6. Also remember the weight loss pattern will resemble stairs and not a straight line. You'll have periods of weight loss, followed by a couple/few weeks of stalling and slight regain. This is just your body recalibrating itself after a large loss to ensure its safe to continue letting go of fat reserves, because it mistakenly thinks you're in a survival event and doesn't want you to starve to death. Just remember this is part of the process, and its not a failure. This really got me down initially and compounded that regret feeling, but after a long stall I'm making progress again. Also, Cipro is very likely the culprit in making you feel sick. it's a very strong antibiotic, and good at its job, but the side effects can be harsh. I've developed some partial hearing loss because of it after years of taking it for recurring Diverticulitis. Ask your doctor if there is another antibiotic that can do the job, but with fewer side effects. Good luck, and I wish you luck on your journey! 1 Arabesque reacted to this
