I pulled something in my back yesterday and I am in awful pain. I have loratab, but that won't help with inflamation. Does anyone know why we shouldn't take ibuprofen and has anyone taken it since being banded?

Thanks.

I was told that I would never be able to take Ibuprofen or Apsirin again because of the tiny stomach we have now it can eat right through it.

I get Migraines and the only thing that ever releaved them non perscription wise was Apsirin 3 of them.

I have since been put on Imitrex in case I get a bad Migraine.< /p>

I will not be able to take Ibuprofen again and I am resigned to that fact.

My band is worth it as well as my tiny pouch!

I take the chewable children's motrin - but not in the dosage it would require for back pain. Only 400 mg and taken with food. For back pain, the dosage is usually 600-800 mg. I don't recall my doc saying don't take it, but I probably wouldn't take the high dosage. Ask your doc - there are lots of other good pain meds that are non-narcotic out there. Good luck!

My doctor told me if I ever need to take ibprofuen I would have to take Protonix, or some type of medicine to protect my stomach from ulcers. Tylenol Go tabs I can take. Those are chewable. Not sure if Tylenol is still making them. My local grocery store had them all on clearance.

How about enteric asprin?! Such as ECOTRIN. They do not digest till the small intestine so the stomach should be safe!

If it goes thru whole to your lower stomach it will be as if you don't have the band. The pill has to be pretty small...

Well I know the 81 mg are very tiny not much larger than a synthroyd and I know that is taken whole but please ask your surgeon. It was just an idea! Good luck pain sucks to put it simply.

My Dr said never again any NSAIDS which are non-steroid anti-inflamatory drugs. That would include aspirin, ibuprofen,

naproxin and most prescription arthritis meds. I had the idea that if I lost some weight my pain would go away. I guess I haven't lost enough but I didn't realize how much my NSAIDS were helping my pain. I'm miserable right now. Tylenol is not helping enough and I don't want to take any narcotics. Not sure what to do (and I am a nurse):scared:

Hey...

Yeah, you have to be really careful with NSAIDS. I am a pharamcist and I know that if you are banded you can never take those again. The reason is because they affect the lining of your GI and everything will stay in the small pouch for a longer time than normal. If the lining erodes you are in big trouble. It could cause gastric bleeding and a whole mess of problems. Do not take any of the NSAIDS after being banded. It is one of the things we have to give up for life.

Hope that helps. Happy Banding...

So wow - this is the first I have heard of this. What can be taken for simple headache pain? I am posting another post on caffeine (it is my biggest evil) and why no caffeine. Couple these two together and I may be in big trouble come surgery time. Ideas?

I have had back problems for yrs. go to the chiro. a lot. You can try something like iceyhot,or I use bio-freeze. A lot of time a steaming hot shower on the part that is hurting does wonders. The biggest thing that as helped me is we bought a sleep number bed I went from going to the chiro 2-3x a wk. sometimes to 2-3 x a month. I do feel for you. Good luck

I'm an doing much better! Thanks for all the responses. I did take an ibuprohen 800 with Nexium. I only took one and it helped tremendously. I don't think I will do it again though. It was the middle of the night and during the Holidays. Taking the ibuprophen kept me from the ER. If I am in that much pain again, I will go to the Dr. without hesitation.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
