revision from VSG to bypass and tricare

Recommended Posts

I'm hoping to get a revision to a bypass for gerd and sleep apnea if that is a possible. I called tricare and the lady said that they only cover 1 weight loss surgery in the lifetime or the person. Any experience with getting approved with tricare select?

I have no experience with tricare but If you have no luck and your not absolutely set on bypass, i I was reading up on Sadi and If you had sleeve and convert to the sadi procedure instead one article said it’s under 10K without insurance (I guess that’s cheaper than alot of revision procedures). Anyways, Not sure if that’s doable for you but maybe with care credit you could make installments?? I Just figured I’d mention it in case it helps.

I would go with The Bypass or DS, several people with the sleeve usually end up getting revisions. Good luck to you! Get a few consults with surgeons.

Just checking to see how you are doing and how your process with Tricare went. I am beginning my journey with Tricare to get conversion approved.

I was on tricare for a short time years ago but didn’t have it for my bariatric surgeries. But after dealing with the revision process with any insurance I I learned that them covering it for GERD would be far more likely than just for weight regain. GERD it would be repairing a complication or side effect of surgery instead of just doing another bariatric surgery. They consider that more of a medical necessity If that makes any sense.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
