I dropped 18 lbs in the first week!

Recommended Posts

In the week since I had surgery on December 13, I have lost 18 pounds!!! It has, indeed, been a fantastic decision. I know this rapid loss won't continue, but it truly made me feel fantastic stepping on that scale. ;)

I get to start softs tomorrow. I'm kind of scared about moving to that, but I think it will be ok. I have great resources and support. I SO hope that I can be down more than 100 lbs by next year!

Congrats everyone! Way to go! I lost a lot the first week .. . and then . . . nothing for a week and a half .. . I even call the dr's office and said "whats wrong here" and they said don't fret . . . that seems to be "normal" after a bit because you body thinks you're starving it . . . just keep on track .. . we could be loosing inches . . . and lo and behold . . . this morning the scale moved again! Yea!

I lost 12 pounds in my first week. However, in my second week I've gained almost 2 pounds of that back... and I just truly start mushies today. Needless to say I'm not very happy.

I lost 13 the 2nd week. I haven't weighed since then, but, I feel awesome.

As far as working out, I walk on my treadmill every night and then I also do a lot of yoga/pilates/movement. One of my favorite things, completely not from any of those is 'sitting' on a wall, doing push-ups on a wall and doing sit-ups on a big exercise ball. I do a lot of work w/ my big exercise ball (have learned a ton from the Physical Therapists at school... I teach special ed). I'm not a traditional, go to the gym kind of chick. I wish I could get in the Water and swim, but my doc wants me to wait at least until I'm 6-8 weeks post-op.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
