March 2024 Surgery Buddies!

Surgery day buddies, mine is Tuesday too! 🙂

My surgeon only requires a pre-op diet for a “few days” prior, no specific number, so I’m starting now. I’m just supposed to eat light and keep hydrated… I feel like I’m doing something wrong, I’ve had myself mentally prepared for the 2 week liquid diet since I started this journey almost a year ago. 😂

The first program I was in had a similar requirement. It would've been liquids for Saturday and Sunday with surgery on Monday. But the program closed and I was referred to a different program at a nearby hospital. And even though they were part of the same healthcare system, the new program required a full 2 week liquid diet. Let me tell you, it was not easy being mentally prepared for 2 days and then being told 2 weeks!

I just scheduled mine for March 12th! I’ll be having SADI/duodenal switch. I’m so nervous about anesthesia but excited to get this part of the journey over with! 😁

I had gastric bypass on 3/12!

I almost feel guilty, but I am actually feeling very well, I have not had any bad pain at all, my highest number was a 3. I have been able to get all of my fluids in, my Protein and my medications/supplements. I was actually wondering if the doctor had really done the surgery. 😁

At this point I'm wondering why I waited so long to do this.

Hope everything went smoothly for you. How are you feeling? I had the sleeve 3/18! I'm working on getting 2 Protein shakes& Water in to stay hydrated. Not a lot of calories so low energy at the moment.

Everything went very smoothly, I'm feeling great. I have been able to get in 2 Protein Shakes and all of my Water. My doctor has also allowed me to have creamed Soups (strained). I alternate about 1/4 cup of each every 2 hours or so.

Are you taking all of your supplements? I take 1or 2 short naps during the day, but for the most part I'm feeling great. I think the B Vitamins are really helping.

So glad your continuing to feel great!!!

I've been able to get 2 Protein Shakes & my Water so far. But, that's about it. I can have creamed soups(strained) if I've met the shake& water goals. I'll probably have a bit more energy if I could get a littler more calories. Which creamed Soups do you like?

And that's a good point about the supplements. I haven't started taking them. My doctor starts Vitamins 2 weeks post surgery. I bet that will help a lot! I need to order some. Was planning on getting chewable (all in one). Which type do you like?

NEver feel guilty, everyone reacts to something differently. You're doing great with this, somene else will do better in a different moment, just enjoy your success and be happy. :)

Good luck tomorrow, I had mine a week ago and completely understand the emotions. There are a few other March buddies who recently had GS & are doing great!

I recommend bringing chapstick or ask for some at the hospital! And walk as much as you can to get the gas bubbles out. It really makes a difference.

I'm feeling pretty good. One of my incisions will occasionally hurt and to cough or sneeze was painful. How are you doing?

For the more seasoned vets, is there such a thing as too much Protein? I think I overdid it yesterday with my Protein Shake, Bone Broth and protein Water.

Belly binders? Are they necessary?

Glad you're doing well. I'm feeling good, maybe pushed myself a bit much yesterday so trying to not over do it today🙃

I was told you can't over do the Protein, curious if others have gotten the same advice?

And I asked for a belly binder, it's not typically part of the post op with my Dr. I've found it is helpful for me. Some people like the extra support it gives& others don't care for them. I don't think it plays any role in the healing process, more for comfort.

@TinyBink I've been told by doctors that a belly binder is a good idea and to wear it as much as possible I have one as well as some shorts with a high bit that goes up to under the bra and has clips to fasten it tight.

I've learned so much reading all of your posts. I'm scheduled for the sleeve March 28th and am getting pretty nervous. The liver shrink diet has been brutal and I'm shocked at the amount of weigh lost in 13 days with 1 to go. I changed the batteries and had a friend get on my scale just to make sure it was working properly. I started the diet at 191.3 and my scale reads 177.8 this morning. Is that normal?? I knew I'd lose a little but that's over 13 pounds! I've stuck to the diet which hasn't been easy but I've done it. Have any others lost this much in less than 2 weeks on this diet?

I think I'm going to try one at least for the support. My bed is pretty high and sometimes just getting in it for the night makes my incisions twinge.

I lost about 13 lbs in the same time frame. It is nerve-wracking in the beginning, but tbh the surgery went pretty quickly (IMO). I was groggy for most of the day from the anesthesia.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
