Hi, which type of cheese do you guys eat ? I try and stay within the low fat or non fat cheese but they get boring. Is a cheddar or a regular havarti ok?

I only ever eat full fat everything and that's since day one post op. I am so done with the mega processed low fat diet 'food' forever I hope. That stuff made me obese in the first place. I would rather have an ounce of regular cheese than a shedload of pretend cheese. Fat as part of a balanced diet is what helps me feel full/satiated and stops me eating for hours afterwards. So, to answer your question - I eat ALL kinds of cheese, just slowly and in moderation!

Everything is better with cheese. Extra cheese.

Full fat, since I can't eat much of it anyhow.

Also from, well, day 10. I couldn't eat much of anything before that. The dairy industry's stocks went down as a result.

All things in moderation, including moderation.

Good luck,

Tek

As long as the higher fat in the cheese doesn't make you feel sick, I would personally rather have a small piece of real cheese than a bigger piece of low-fat or fat-free "cheese". I can handle low-fat or fat-free milk, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc. But cheese is sacred.

There's a traditional cheese factory in Vermont, about 2 hours from where I live, with the most amazing cheese I have ever tasted. Right now, I can probably eat a pound of it all on my own over the course of a weekend. I shouldn't. I know this. But I could, so I don't buy it. But after surgery, I think I will. Who cares if it costs $35 a pound if I can only eat maybe an ounce?

Go to a local cheesemaker if you have one and buy a really small amount of the most insanely expensive, insanely delicious cheese you can find. That's my advice. If it comes wrapped in plastic, don't bother. You can do better.

Mmmm cheese. Good. I ate low fat Jarlsberg from solid foods but I did revert back to full fat after a few weeks cause it tasted nicer. And would sprinkle Parmesan on my bolognese & in my omelettes. Close to goal I would eat Brie, Camembert, a soft blue if out socialising where there were Snacks but not a meal, A couple of pieces were ample. Full fat is so much yummier but it’s all about how much you eat each time & what else you’re eating.

Saw something recently about there being something in cheese that makes it addictive. I can’t recall what because I don’t care - it’s an addiction I’m willing to indulge.

I eat all kinds of cheese at least once a day. A ounce piece of blue cheese and a chopped apple or grapes are my very fav right now for my last snack/ small meal of the day.

I only eat full fat foods with the exception of full skimmed milk. I have used the skimmed milk so long I find full fat milk too rich.

I eat full fat cheese. My favorites are colby jack, pepper jack, and havarti. I can only eat a little bit of it, so I either have a couple of cheese cubes with some meat as a snack (I like hard salami or some roast beef) or I add a little shredded cheese to my eggs when I make them (I can only eat 2 now instead of the 5-6 I used to eat at a time).

Eat what you enjoy the taste of. That goes for all food not just cheese. I eat cottage cheese because I like it. I eat tasty cheddars because they have a little kick. No point in eating anything that you cant taste. I have shaved parmesan.

Our food is restricted. Enjoy the things you can eat.

EVERY. KIND.

im partial to the stinky cheeses (the stinkier the better...im looking at you roquefort) and love me a smoked aged gouda, lol. and a fresh cracked ancient wheel of parmesan is omg yum. oh and a really ripe goat cheese, or a super briney feta, a melty slab of brie with some jam...i could go on.

I heart cheese.

i'm with most of the folks here, no low fat, diet cheese for me...honestly, its not real cheese then.

small amounts is the trick.

I love cheese!!! And honestly it depends on what and when. I keep light string cheese on hand always because it's just easy and doesn't taste all that different. I also will just take an ounce of full fat fresh mozzarella and enjoy it alone or with prosciutto or salami. I do buy reduced fat deli sliced cheese -cheddar, colby jack or swiss. I have part skim shredded mozzarella and a mexican cheese blend typically on hand as well for any number of things. Regular parmesan and 2% cottage cheese is a fridge staple as well. It all depends on what exactly I'm having them with.

Feta is also great - never ever buy fat free. It is awful and just a waste by that point.

Now if I am out and about, I'm not particular to seek out reduced fat versions, I will enjoy whatever as I'm not eating as much and I concentrate on meat and cheese and veg. Especially if a charcuterie board is involved as it is an easier picking - minus crackers and bread for me. Gouda, havarti, cheddar etc.

I always have Sargento low fat Mozzarella string cheese in my fridge. I eat 1 a day. I try to stay away from other cheeses, but i dont obsess. If i want a piece of colby jack, i will have it on occasion. Keep in mind the full fat cheeses also have more cholesterol aside from more fat.

Add me to the list of cheese lovers. I told my husband just yesterday that I should cut back on cheese (a little intolerance to lactose), an hour later I made a chaffle with gouda and herbs. It was so good. My defense- gouda is easier to digest. I only do full fat cheese, but I TRY to eat it sparingly.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
