I just got the call today that my surgery is scheduled for February 7th! I'm both excited and nervous, I knew this day would come, but I'm still in shock 🤣

Mine is scheduled for February 21! (It was supposed to be December 27, but that was a whole big mess detailed in another post). I met my new surgeon on Tuesday and had my blood work, EKG, and barium swallow yesterday. 7 weeks to go!

How exciting!! My surgeon had a cancelation for the end of January but I opted for February so my work had more of a heads up and time to find coverage for me.

Yeah, while I work for myself so don't have to deal with coverage or time-off approval, I was somewhat grateful February was the option the doctor gave me. I had already rearranged a lot to accommodate the December date, and when that fell through, it left me scrambling. Turns out the week in February they gave me is pretty ideal, so I'm glad about that, even if the countdown is killing me.

Between now and then, my main focus is on getting back to healthy foods after the holidays and developing a better schedule for meals and exercise that will help me be a bit more regular about both.

I have yet to get a date. I was trying for the Duodenal switch. Insurance denied, it was expected since that was the only bariatric surgery they don't cover, but it was worth a try. Resubmitted for Rouen-Y gastric bypass. Should hear back in a week or so. Hopefully I can get a surgery date in February.

Not really. Have the pre op zoom class today! I'll probably get nervous as the time gets closer. It still seems so far away.

I have my 2 week pro-op appointment this Tuesday! I'm really hoping I don't have to do a full 2 weeks of liquid diet before surgery 🤣

After being denied Duodenal Switch, my Insurance accepted Rouen-Y Gastric bypass. I have my Pre-op with the surgeon Tuesday as well. It's required from my surgeon on a 2 week liquid diet. If you do need to have two week liquid Diet. Take it a day at a time, don't look ahead. It will be worth it!

I have my meeting with the surgeon on Tuesday as well, although for me it is 4 weeks pre-op. I believe the 2 week liquid diet is a given for me, but I've been getting used to the idea by replacing Breakfast and lunch with a Protein Shake several times a week for the past few weeks. It's not too bad. I haven't gotten really hungry during the day, although getting to have a regular dinner does make it easier, so I'm not looking forward to the real thing.

I had to do 2 weeks of a very low calorie high Protein diet. Its actually going ok, but I do miss eating Cereal more than anything else haha. 2 days before my surgery I start liquid only, then the day before I have to stop the Protein Drinks at 6PM, and NPO after midnight.

I have to be at the hospital at 6:30AM for a surgery time of 8:30AM!!! Im getting more excited than nervous for now. Im sure that will change once the date gets even closer.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
