People are starting to tell me how fat I was before WLS

Recommended Posts

I have people telling me this now! I told my bosses that I was going to do WLS because of the time I will be taking off of work and my male boss was like your SO is going to be so happy, your going to be a bazillion pounds lighter by summer. I literally was like you know my SO met me curvy? He backtracked, but he is pretty openly fatphobic. I was pretty shocked by that comment....

Mine met me at a heavier weight than I am now (I was 270 when I met him) and he absolutely LOVED it. He's a "chubby chaser" and likes girls between sizes 14 - 30 lol Fortunately I like my body curvy, just not like I was (or even am now) so he's lucky that I'm ok with getting to a size 14 or 16. Otherwise he'd be outta luck.

My guy likes me thicker but recently I showed him a picture before I had my daughter and I was 210, size 12 and his eyes got huge (like a hubba hubba LOL). So yes I think he would like my new body where I was smaller too. however I do get nervous he will think I am too skinny. But only time will tell!

I have had more friends/family tell me now that they were worried for my health etc etc. Of course only a couple close friends told me they were concerned before I started losing weight. It is what it is, fat jokes etc don't bother me, I made them when I was at my heaviest. I know people talked behind my back, it is human nature.

Sorry to hear everyone is going through this with friends, loved ones, and coworkers, but I think it just goes with the process. There's jerks everywhere, and if they're making comments now, they were making comments before. I just had surgery 2 months ago, and I've already lost friends and cut off family members over it. It sucked, but it was needed.

Typically those people are unhappy with themselves and waste time obsessing over how to nitpick everyone else's shortcomings and how they can turn that around to make themselves fill superior. All you can do is just walk away because any attention is "good attention" to them. Even firing back at them with a response feeds their ego, and makes them feel even more justified. Don't give them any of your mental energy, they haven't and won't ever earn it from you.

We had a company function in December and I was the talk of the event. I didn't go last year so this was the first time a lot of people saw me since the WLS. I could tell that people were talking about me and many of them came over to say hi and ask me how I managed to lose the weight. I guess everyone had "lose weight" in their 2024 resolutions. I gave them the "eating healthy and cycling" answer and even showed them photos of my mountain bike.
A lot of them reminded me of how huge I was before and that they were really concerned etc. This was the first time I'm hearing these comments which I assume were always made behind my back. Then they started talking the same about other people who need to lose weight calling them fat and make jokes about them. I was not amused and couldn't help it but telling them to stop. People can be really mean. You don't know what those people are going through and was struggles and problems do they have. Just because you are skinny doesn't make you a better person.
Have you had a similar experience?

Some of them may have been their private thoughts that they are sharing with you now. That they were truly worried, especially if you're a good guy[emoji3590] and worth worrying about. I have been concerned about others who have put on a lot of weight but because I had a history of obesity myself, I know better how to phrase weight comments.

The ones making fun of others is unacceptable behavior, period. I label them jerks, and would avoid toxic people.

You've done great, congrats.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
