Oh no! That was my day on Saturday. I went for Breakfast with a friend and ordered scrambled eggs. I ate 1 scrambled egg, half a sausage, and a bite of potato. I thought I was okay but we went for a walk after and I started to feel pain. It got worse until I had to duck behind a tree on the walking trail and let it all come up. So painful and miserable.

I've found I am doing okay with sliced deli turkey, though, so that gives me something to add to the repertoire. And I made a berry smoothie yesterday that was very nice. Eating is definitely a chore.

Are you home from Cairo? I have some travel coming up and know it will be a challenge to plan meals. Any tips would be great!

Oh no. Sorry it happened to you too. It's rough isn't it? I fly home tomorrow at last - but I have another conf coming up so will be home for all of 10 days before heading off again!

It's hard enough to travel healthily in the best of times, but having to navigate meals when your needs are so non-standard right now is really hard. Just going out for the day has been difficult! I can't imagine how challenging it is to be in another country and maybe not have the familiar foods and brands you are most comfortable with.

How's everyone getting along? I ate too fast yesterday at lunch then had a horrible afternoon and am exhausted today.

Ugh, that doesn't sound very good. I haven't had anything affect me for over an hour or so. I've eaten too fast and too much and both are so uncomfortable. I mostly get the heavy uncomfortable feeling in my chest. If I eat too much I will burp up food and sometimes have to spit it into a napkin cuz there's no room to swallow it back down.

Isn't it crazy how eating has gone from something we loved to do to a chore that is often dreaded? At least for me, it is.

It's really difficult to eat now, between figuring out what I can eat, what I should eat, how much I'll be able to eat... I'm still mostly eating soft foods because of how many times I've been sick. I'm getting 75-80g Protein each day, but half of that is coming from unflavored protein supplement and milk. I know it will all go back to normal eventually, or close to normal, but right now eating is such a drag. I really want a personal chef to make my tiny plates of food for me so I don't have to think about it!

chicken, Turkey & Bison ground meat is the easiest for me to eat and get enough in where I can get the protein I need. However, chicken breast is another matter. for some reason I can only eat about 2-2.5 oz of chicken breast. But I can have almost two cups of ground meat. Deli meats, I can get in about one to one and a half slices before I fill up. Greek yogurt with Pbfit2 chocolate and Protein Powder mixed is my go to. I can eat two cups and not feel stuffed. Weird thing is when it comes to eggs, I can eat two fried eggs easily, but two scrambled eggs and I can't finish it. Only thing I'm concerned with, is how very slow my weight loss is. I'll lose a pound or two, then go two to three weeks without losing. In fact, I weighed last week and gained a pound. I'm not sure how that's possible, but I managed it. The dietician and Doctor has assured me that's normal.

@RonHall908 Isn't the slow weight loss the worst? I had my second mini stall this past week. At least it was 4 days instead of 7 like I had at the three-week mark. I truly did think, based on how quickly I lost weight in the pre-op diet phase, that it would be super quick after surgery. I lost 15.4 lbs in 2 weeks compared to 16.8 pounds in 8 weeks post-op. What the heck?! It's demoralizing at times. I still have 3 weeks until my next appointment with the dietician and 5 weeks until I see the doctor again. I'm really hoping I'm on track. They say the first 3 months is the fastest weight loss, and if that's true for me...it really sucks.

The one thing I can handle large quantities of is Water, or even something very liquid like a smoothie. 16oz in under 30 minutes is no problem. And I can eat a full 1 cup serving of bean and veg Soup. Any kind of meat fills me up fast, though, although tuna salad is probably the one I can eat the most of.

I do tend to weigh myself twice a week. I'm sure that doesn't help. But, it would if the scale would move. I just expected a faster response from the surgery. From October up to the two weeks before my surgery, I had lost nearly 70 lbs. Just from changing my diet and exercise. I'm still doing the same thing, but I'm eating less. May 8th I see the Doctor at the bariatric hospital I go to. That will be my 3 month post op appointment. I'll have another blood work-up then to see if there's any issues with nutrition and Vitamin deficiency. I've lost over 100 lbs. since October, so that's definitely a big plus.

@BlueParis I’m sure you’re really happy to be home and WTG on the weight loss!

@NickelChip I’m usually able to get between 60-70 gms of Protein a day in with no shakes most days…..I eat a lot of tuna, Greek yogurt, buffalo chicken dip, and my new favorite is chicken Pizza Crust pizza. I also occasionally eat canned turkey chili with no Beans in it for lunch mainly cause it’s soft and high in protein but a little different than what I’m usually eating. I’m definitely getting bored with my food choices but anytime I try and add in stuff I end up coming up short on protein and have to drink a shake. 🤢I use LiquaCel also. They gave it to me in the hospital and I prefer it to shakes. It’s 16 gms of collagen protein ( it is a complete protein and my nutritionist is ok with it) it’s super sweet but I just mix it with a little Water and I’m good.
@RonHall908 and I’m with you guys on the slow weight loss train also so it must be pretty normal although irritating. Lol

@LisaCaryl I’m glad your nausea is getting better. Maybe you’d like the liquacel to help with your protein since you don’t eat meat. You can buy them in one dose packets so you could try them before you bought a bottle of it. I like the peach mango one the best but it is super sweet so not sure if it’s for ev1 but maybe an option for some of y’all needing a protein boost with no shakes 🤷🏼‍♀️

https://store.bariatricpal.com/products/liquacel-liquid-protein-1oz-packets-flavors?variant=5067375607845

heres the single serve packets but I ended up buying the multiple dose bottles directly from the manufacturer cause it was cheaper.

I thought I was gaining ground and hadn’t thrown anything up in several days, but then I attempted to eat chicken breast for dinner last night and after only a couple bites I was sick because it felt stuck. I just can’t seem to chew it rough or eat slow enough. I only keep attempting it because it seems to be higher in Protein than a lot of other meats. The scale is moving for me again so woohoo!!! I’m down to 176lbs. I was 207lbs when I started. I got a new ring that monitors activity so I’m up and moving now. Only 6000 steps a day but it’s a start! Thank you to everyone in my little group here for all your posts. My surgery was February 22nd. I have my post op appt next week on the 25th. I’m hoping my weight loss is on track.

WTG on your weight loss and the activity! Exercise is definitely something I need to work on. I hate it lol. Maybe try chicken salad instead of just chicken breast. Chicken breast can be dry, or maybe add a sauce of some type to it to help. 😉 good luck on your appt!

Sorry the chicken got you! Overall, it sounds like you are doing great! Surgery on the same day, and I'm around 30 pounds lost, too. I don't weigh til Friday, but I'm pretty sure that's where I'm at. You are doing much better than I am with exercise. I need to get a walking pad or something. I live in the country and on a mountainside, so walking outside is hard. I get about 4,000 steps in just taking care of my animals, but for sure need more!

I’ll have to try chicken salad. I do good with tuna and salmon and ground meats are usually ok as long as I take little bites. I’ve seen everyone on here not tolerating some foods and drinks recently. Mine is yogurt 🤢 I used to love it but I can’t stomach the taste right now. I’m going to try and keep moving a little more each week. The warm weather helps. I swear I like to hibernate like a bear when it’s cold out lol.

I bought a treadmill because the nearest gym is 40 miles round trip from me. It just took me awhile to regain any kind of energy to get on it. I had someone today compliment me on the amount of weight I’ve lost since she last saw me in January or Feb. it was great to hear because I don’t think I see it on myself the way others see it. I’m sure once I get down some more I will. WTG on your weight loss too!! Eating is definitely a work in progress and can be a chore now.

I live on a huge hill and just told my hubby I need a walking pad too cause I’m flat out NOT walking back up this hill to get home. 😂

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
