Why so Tired??

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 12/4.....2 1/2 weeks ago. I am so tired after I do things! Anyone else feel like this? I went to the grocery store and Christmas shopping (mild) and came home and put up the groceries in shifts. I'm wondering if I just got spoiled and out of shape the week and a half I stayed in the recliner, or what? :bored

It is so great to be able to eat what I like, then getting really full after just 1/3 of what I usually would have eaten. I gave up thinking I would be instantly thin after surgery. At least mentally, I think I am settling in for the long haul.

Those of you newly banded - it gets BETTER. You will feel so much better soon. :bandit

You hit the nail on the head. Your muscles turn into mush when you lay around. It's not unusual to get sweaty and maybe nauesated too. Another thing to watch for with those symptoms is low blood sugar...but I bet it's just the post surgery weakness.......which will go away as you move more.

TXbandit:

I was surprised at how exhausted I was every afternoon for a few months. It really was draining to me while I was healing. I was increasing my exercise at the same time as I was recovering from surgery. It took me about three to four months to get my energy back and it's actually increased since then.

Best wishes for more energy soon.

Sue

TXBandit,

I was banded 12/3 and like you I am still tired. The Dr told me this would be due to a combination of the anaesthetic and the fact that I have been taking in so many less calories than I am used to and that the body is still recovering from surgery. He said that it could be as much as 2 months before I feel 'normal' but that I should keep moving even if it was only a 5 minute walk.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
