Scheduled for surgery next week but my surgeon's staff has disappeared on me. Wtf?

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for the sleeve on Dec 28th and I'm on Day 5 of the liquid diet but I haven't heard from my doctor's office at all in over a month.

I got a letter from my insurance saying the procedure was approved so I know they already submitted it but they're not responding to my calls or emails. I am supposed to take Pre-Op admission testing before surgery but no one called me to schedule this.

I called the office again just now and was told that the coordinator is on vacation and the other one is out sick so no one can help me. Am I wrong for panicking here????

I don't think I would panic just yet, but I would definitely be concerned. My doctor's office had it set up so we scheduled our own pre surgery testing and did it online. As far as anything else, if you have questions about the surgery, recovery, diet, etc then I would route those to your nutritionist and nurses at the office. My coordinator pretty much just worked with the insurance to get the surgery approved, got it scheduled, and gave me a check list of everything I needed to get done. She gave me the websites for the videos and testing I needed to do. And that was it. That's where her job ended.

My nutritionist isn't involved with the surgeon at all. The coordinator and Physician Assistant have been the ones I communicate with for scheduling things. Since I can't reach them, I have no way to schedule this pre-op testing in the hospital so I'm very confused.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
