A bunch of Problems and a little rant.

Recommended Posts

Hi, i'm almost 3 month out, got my Bypass on 1. September 2023, i Had a lot of problems, and a lot of ER Visits,

it seems like the Exit of my Pouch narrowed down so much that i couldn't even Drink anymore, they Stretchted it to 1,2cm's the "normal" size should be 3cm,

they Already told me i need a Second Surgery and one of my surgeons said that maybe the Doctor who did that did it on purpose so i would "lose weight better!" with a giggle, What an A-Hole. I'm kinda off all things i've read on that Topic, i can't eat any kind of meat or cheese, it would not sit well and i will Vomit a lot. I Live after 3 Month, Out of Protein Yoghurts and pudding. I can tolerate Crisp bread, but again can't do something on it very much, i'm Kinda at a loss Right now, But i Lost in that 3 month's around 40Kilogramms.

but i feel pretty bad in General, since i feel like "i will never be able to eat even the Portion sizes i should with bypass".

by "second surgery", do you mean you have a second stricture that needs to be stretched? That's not unusual. I had to go in twice to get mine stretched - after that, I was fine - never had problems with them again. About 5% of bypass patients get strictures. The PA at my bariatric clinic said it's the most common complication - and it's an easy fix. They almost never happen once you reach the 3-month-post-op mark, so it's doubtful you'll have one again after you get this one stretched.

you'll be able to eat more the further out you get from surgery. It's really just the first few months that you have certain food restrictions and can only eat a tiny amount of food.

you should feel a lot better once they stretch out the stricture - and it's unlikely you'll have another one after this.

hey thank you for your Answer, yes it's a Stricture, but The doc told me already it is so narrow that they can't stretch it to "normal" levels so they adviced me to get a second surgery. I really hope in a year or two i can eat at least something like Tofu or other "textured" food.

Hey I struggled with eating soft food diet. I couldn’t eat bread, eggs, Pasta, rice. Anything that was dense. I was stuck on a purée diet for 14 months. I had to have surgery again for them to correct the oesophagus, diaphragm, stomach pouch I developed and hiatus hernia. Anything I ate got blocked and would come back up. I did have a stretch a month into the first surgery but it never helped

did i get better after you hate your second surgery?, i feel kinda stuck but after all i'm only 3 month out, it's sad that i don't even tolerate stuff like Tofu, in My Programm you aren't allowed to drink 30 mins before and 30 mins after a Meal, but for me its like i have to wait 2 to 3 hours after a meal to drink so i often have to make the decision between drinking or eating and it is super annoying.

Yep that was me.
im more cautious this time round.
I am only 19 days post op. But it feels so different. I was told to stick to fluids for 3 weeks. So still a bit longer. And then runny puree for 3 weeks.
I can drink and wait an hour before drinking again. I’m struggling with plain Water.
before I would have a coffee for Breakfast and then wouldn’t have anything till lunchtime.

Have you tried Water flavoring packets, Decaf coffee, and decaf tea? Those have really saved me from boredom. I'm still nauseous sometimes and plain water seems to trigger it. So I use these jolly rancher flavoring packets because they are sweet sour and the combo really cuts the nausea for me. sugar free Tang is good too. I dilute them twice what the packet says, one per water bottle (mine holds 4 cups) and it is enough that my nausea isn't triggered. It makes getting things down MUCH easier. Iced tea is easy to get down too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
