10 week post sleeve weight gain?

Recommended Posts

I would say it’s a combination of Fluid retention from the Ringer’s Lactate or Saline if you received an I.V, any meds you were given and the stress from illness itself.
I know it’s easier said than done but try to hold off weighing yourself for a while.
10 weeks post op is still fairly early on and you have many more months of progress to look forward to.
Good luck ❤️

My thoughts, like @GreenTealael, was Fluid retention from any IVs you were given. Plus your body just may have held on to everything while fighting the sepsis - it’s a terrible thing if they can’t get on top of it.

Hope you are recovering well & yes stay off the scales for a few days or week or so.

yep - most likely the IV fluids. Especially if you've been eating hardly anything. I wouldn't worry about it - that extra Water will all work its way out of your system in a few days. if it's bothering you, stay off the scale for a few days. By the time you get back on, it should be gone.

I am sure they had you on IV fluids, it is Water weight. It will pass, don't worry.

Weigh yourself less, that helps. Commit to a weighing schedule and try to stick with it. Once a week? Once a month? Even, every day if you need to but if the fluctuation bothers you; I suggest weekly.

I weigh myself every Monday, because that was the day I had surgery and the last time I was weighed before surgery. Now that I am basically at my (first) goal I weigh myself more because I am excited to get there. haha

Best of luck! I hope you are feeling better Sepsis is no joke!!

Hi I got my sleeve surgery on August 22nd .. I've lost about 50 pounds but I was in the hospital a few days with sepsis and now I just got on the scale and gained like 8 pounds? I've barley eating so I'm confused any help ?

Start weight 302 Surgery weight 288 Monday 251 today 260..

I would have to say it is all the fluids and antibiotics your on. I was in the hospital for a week with a similar situation and ballooned up 15 pounds which I am happy to say is now gone. Just remember to follow the plan, reach out to your dietitian and stay on track. Those pound will drop in no time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
