jacquelynn22 24 Posted October 13, 2023 Question about sleeping. I don’t think I was ever told I had to sleep on my back and for how long. I’m a side sleeping but I’m paranoid to sleep on my side in fear or messing something up. . . Was anyone told they need to sleep on their backs and for how long?! Momo G 10 Posted October 13, 2023 Hi I was never told a sleeping position. I had my surgery 10/12 and so I looked it up read that it is preferred to sleep on your back but if you sleep on you side I read to put a pillow between your legs. I tired it I was still uncomfortable so I went to back. I am a side sleeper so this was, but you can sleep on slide with a pillow between your legs! Hope this helps!!! 3 KathyLev, BeanitoDiego and jacquelynn22 reacted to this

Momo G 10 Posted October 13, 2023 How are you feeling? I feel good just really bruised in my incisions and second day super soar. I was able to go home the same day. I have been able to get Water and shakes in. I hate the liquids being at room temp I am use to cold. I still have a lot gas want to fart but I can’t. When I take my stool softener i it’s hard to go down! I hope it works soon sorry TMI. I hope you’re feeling good! 3 BeanitoDiego, jacquelynn22 and KathyLev reacted to this
BeanitoDiego 153 Posted October 13, 2023 I was never told to sleep in any certain position. I'm a lifelong side sleeper, and I move from side to side during the night. The transitions would hurt at first, but I was much more comfortable on my side than on my back. 2 KathyLev and jacquelynn22 reacted to this
catwoman7 11,220 Posted October 13, 2023 I wasn't told how to sleep, either. I've always slept on my side but it wasn't that comfortable to do that immediately after my surgery, so I slept on my back for a couple of weeks. I've slept on my side ever since. 3 BeanitoDiego, jacquelynn22 and KathyLev reacted to this

Able to drink and keep liquids down. I did stay a night in the hospital but so glad to be home now. I’m able to move and juts get tried after a bit. But doing great otherwise. 1 BeanitoDiego reacted to this
bariatricks 11 Posted October 13, 2023 I tossed and turned so much the very night of my surgery and wasn't warned for or against anything, and it didn't seem to cause any issues. If anything I think it helped me with the gas pain, or so I told myself. 2 jacquelynn22 and BeanitoDiego reacted to this
Shnee 7 Posted October 14, 2023 I’m happy that you’re doing well!! My surgery is on the 18 of October. I hope that my A1C is not going to stop it 2 jacquelynn22 and NettyD reacted to this
LittleWanderer87 3 Posted October 14, 2023 My program recommended a positioning wedge to make it easier to get in and out of bed. Also, lying flat can be extremely painful for some post-op and having that little angle makes it a million times more comfortable. They also warning lying on your side can cause pulling at your newly healing incisions and could be painful. I'm the over-prepared type, so I bought the stupidly expensive wedge and ohhhhh man was it worth it! It was a total game changer for me post-op. I was a side / tummy sleeper normally and having that little incline made lying on my back so much more comfortable. It also helped getting out of bed without using my stomach muscles too much. I'm farther out post-op now but I refuse to give up my wedge because it's more comfortable for me now. 2 BeanitoDiego and jacquelynn22 reacted to this

I’ve made my own incline with my pillows. I slept really good last night so I’m hoping I’m getting use to back sleeping lol

Arabesque 7,397 Posted October 15, 2023 (edited) I wasn’t told either. I’m a side sleeper too & from the day after surgery I slept on my side without an issue. Couldn’t the first day/night because of the compression machine on my legs. It really comes down to whether you find it comfortable or not (given your surgeon doesn’t advise differently).
