Hi friends! 😁This is my first post on here, so I apologize if I have NO IDEA what I'm doing! 😅 My VSG is scheduled for 11/22...the day immediately before Thanksgiving. Who does that? lol

Hi Sarah, welcome!! I know, my brother was like "You'll be on a restricted diet through Thanksgiving? Why would you do that to yourself??" 😂 So I know I won't end up gaining! Hahahaha!

I agree about the charlie horses, definitely get an electrolyte powder!! I was miserable the first night after I started the diet until I remembered I had a box of them. Lifesavers man... I drink one a night and haven't had anymore leg cramps!

Congratulations on getting married!! You sound like you've had a busy few months! I hope you've built in some time to rest after your surgery, based on past surgeries I know it takes more energy to heal than we anticipate!

Dr.Sharp at Rex!

Oh good choice!! I've heard they are good over there! I was admitted to Rex hospital once and the nursing staff was fantastic, I felt really cared for. You'll be in great hands!

I figured if I use food as an excuse to not get the surgery at that time, then I'm probably not ready for it...plus, Yule/Christmas/what-have-you is the month after that, so if I use holidays as an excuse to delay surgery, it's gonna be a few months.

...

I have my VSG scheduled that Monday, so I am right there with you. My family asked me why I didn't just wait until after the holidays, but like what you said, I can't let food be the excuse to push it back further. That and it was the only time I could use enough leave time + holiday time to take off for a week.

I start my all liquids on Thanksgiving and I am getting comments from the peanut gallery about it... I told them... This is not my last Thanksgiving, I will be able to join you all. Just now bring the focus on family, friends and memories not the food..

Well I’m 1.5 weeks into my 4 week preop diet and things have smoothed out a bit thank goodness. I’ve got a preop appointment tomorrow for testing and other fun things. My work has also cleared me to be out essentially through the rest of the year.

Positive thoughts for you all with your Nov. 1 dates!

It's really great for your workplace to give you so much time to heal!! This will make it much easier to transition through the stages and get into a new routine!

Thanks for the well wishes! Day 2 of the all shake phase. My partner warmed up chili this morning and I had to leave the kitchen because it smelled so good. LOL

Welcome everyone!! We're getting closer!

I'm in my third week of my pre-op diet, 5th day of all shakes. It's not so bad as long as you stay hydrated and use Water flavoring packets! My surgery is still Nov. 1st, I'm a little scared they will cancel now that I've been on this diet for so long. 😂 I've started using the antibacterial soap they require we shower with for days before surgery. We even have to sleep on fresh sheets the night before! These surgery requirements make sense but also make me laugh sometimes... LOL

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
