It's fall in Wisconsin and - I'm COLD !!!

Recommended Posts

This will be my first fall/winter since surgery in May. Let me start out by saying - I've always been hot. I haven't owned any long sleeve tops. We keep the house temp at 65ish. I sleep with the window open and a fan on all year round. I have to take off my coat in the store while grocery shopping in winter. I wear a light coat while everyone's bundled up for winter. BUT NOW --------------I'm finding out that I'm C-O-L-D !!!!! It's 49 out. I'm ready to drag out my winter coat !!! LOL I've been scouring the Goodwill the last week for sweaters and sweatshirts so I can be comfortable. What a change !! My insulation is gone LOL How do you handle the cold ? Does it affect you now that some of your "insulation" is gone ?

Welcome to the club! We really should have jackets made (and sweaters, mittens, scarfs etc)

How being cold has affected my life:

I’m still cold years later. I have to carry extra jackets during outings just in case. I’ve started looking at base layers in stores again. No insulated mug is hot enough for my needs. If I need something from the refrigerated section of the store it feels like a burden. I completely avoid open refrigerated and freezer areas. I will never travel to Svalbard with my partner, I want to sit exactly at the equator.

But the bright side is I still have plenty of insulation so it’s not as bad as it could be.

Yep, like @GreenTealael, I still feel the cold. Hate the refrigerated section in grocery stores. Take a blanket like long coat into cinemas. Brrr.

We’re almost halfway through Spring here but are having a bit of a cold snap. It’s about 70degrees F today & I’m in thickish leggings, socks, a hoodie, have a blanket over my knees & the air conditioning on warm. Some say it gets better & you reacclimatise but I’m still waiting.

I always dress more warmly than others & always keep a coat in my car just in case I need something extra.

It's funny because I have a friend who is naturally very thin, bordering on underweight, and she is always cold. We were out walking on a horribly hot and humid day this summer where everyone else on the street was in tank tops and shorts and looking ready to die, and she had on a light denim jacket. I almost wouldn't have believed she could feel cold, but her hands were like ice to the touch. I have to say I wouldn't mind this side effect because I hate the heat. If it makes summers more bearable, I'll take it. (Of course, I say that now, before the onset of what they're all saying is going to be an epic New England winter.)

I had my surgery in the winter. I was cold straight away. The only time that I am in a comfortable temperature is when it gets to 35 + degrees. I have no need for Air con.

My poor husband sits in his underwear in the house

I wear base layers all year round. This summer I have rarely put my boots away. I have never worn thermal underwear, socks, slipper boots, gloves, scarves, jumpers or big coats before.

The bonus is that I make good pastry now, pastry loves cold hands

Very cold these days— but just wait til you have to get a shot in your arm… that really hurts!

another Wisconsinite here! I had that issue the first year or so out. I don't notice it any more and haven't for a long time, but for some people, it seems to be permanent.

Same here…always cold…and I’m worried about heating oil costs!

Yesterday was a really cool day here in Pennsylvania. High was only 60° and I had to mow the yard. I was bundled up like Randy on A Christmas Story! 😆

I don’t enjoy being cold, but every time I am, it makes me smile, knowing that I am thin and healthier. I no longer sweat at the drop of a hat.

So embrace the big chilly!!!

I am sitting here in my house with a hoodie, sweatpants, thick fleece socks and a blanket on my lap and my thermostat says it's 68 in here. I feel your pain!

Absolutely this. I have never ever been cold before WLS, no matter how much weight I lost 'naturally'.

These days I am permanently cold when others are hot. I dress in many layers so I can remove one or two if necessary (I rarely have to).

It's one of the biggest mind shifts I've had to make.

Oh no... I am cold by nature already, my weight never seemed to impact it. The doctor seems to think it is a thyroid thing, I think my thermostat is just damaged. LOL But if I get even colder after this surgery I'll have to start buying long underwear!! 😂 My partner runs hot and keeps the house at about 70 all year round and is STILL hot, so I wear layers all year round. Except for socks, I HATE socks. But I might have to get over that and start wearing socks and slippers.... If it makes the summers more bearable though it isn't a bad deal, I don't cope with heat well at all. I got heat stroke a few times and they say once that happens your internal thermostat is never the same. Plus I take meds that make me sensitive to the heat and the sun so I wear long sleeves year round. It sounds like this will continue indefinitely... Good to know for future shopping!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
