JonBlue 2 Posted September 29, 2023 Hello, I had my RNY surgery on the 27th. I am in some pain which I know is normal I was wondering ,is it normal to have pain when food is going through your digestive system? I have the gas or food moving every time I eat I use the bathroom. I also have not stopped having dark diarrhea. I'm scared to eat pureed food as of yet since my plan says I can start the day I get home from the hospital. Has anyone experience this? I'm so nervous about having a bowl obstruction or bleeding that can become serious. My surgeon says to monitor it but I'm scared. I don't have the best insurance if I need ER visits. Thank you for reading.
BeanitoDiego 153 Posted September 29, 2023 Wiser minds than me have mentioned that the dark diarrhea is from old blood that is still getting purged from your system. I think that if you don't feel comfortable having pureed foods, you don't have to eat them. I consumed broth fortified with scoops of collagen for the first two weeks after surgery. And definitely contact your bariatric provider if the color changes or pain gets any worse. I'm sure some of the forum legends will chime in to help support you, too. 2 Arabesque and BabySpoons reacted to this
Tomo 1,194 Posted September 29, 2023 I would contact a doctor immediately. Dark stools are not considered normal, nor is pain like that. Good luck. Hope everything is ok. Better to have it checked to make sure. 1 SleeverSk reacted to this
JonBlue 2 Posted September 30, 2023 Thank you both! I will follow up with doctor. They are closed on weekends but I will try the answering service. I hope they don't get irritated by me. 1 BeanitoDiego reacted to this

catwoman7 11,220 Posted September 30, 2023 I agree with BeanitoDiego on the dark stool - it's probably just blood from the surgery. Strange color stool isn't that unusual the first month or so after surgery. Not sure about the pain part. Just run it by your clinic and see what they say. 1 Arabesque reacted to this
