Did anyone deal with bleeding sore painful gums after flossing and or eating? Mine went away after after my menstrual went off but I’m still concerned. My gums are still sore and the bleeding from flossing and eating but not as crazy as before. I have a dentist appointment next month.

I've had peridontal disease for years (since before I had WLS), so yes, I've had those symptoms, but for me they aren't WLS-related. I'm not Sure those types of symptoms that WOULD be WLS-related, but then, I don't know.. I know lack of Vitamin C can cause bleeding gums, too. Just check with your dentist.

I often used to get tender gums & a little bleeding with my menstrual cycle. I thought I was weird so am glad you have the same thing. But I wonder if you have developed some gum disease. A B12 deficiency can cause bleeding gums too. Have you had a recent blood test (though can’t recall Vitamin C being included in our usual blood tests).

Glad you’re seeing your dentist soon.

This is the first time my gums have gotten this bloody. Post op day 3 my menstrual started. And I didn’t notice any bleeding gums or teeth pain because I couldn’t eat anything anyway. But now it’s obvious. Once I get an update from my dentist I will let you guys know what’s up. I haven’t been taking natural forms of Vitamin C because it’s too sweet but I guess tablet/pill for will have to suffice.

Female hormones can make your gums more sensitive. My doctor told me sometimes pregnant women have this issue because of the increase in hormones. I had this happen when I was taking progesterone, but I wouldn't be surprised if estrogen can do it too. Also I have bleeding, pale gums when I'm Iron deficient. So something to watch for...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
