Theia103121 21 Posted September 19, 2023 So I had my first meeting with my surgeon. She said that a bypass would be contraindicated for me for several reasons, the main one being because of my history of lower abdominal surgery (I've had nine stomach surgeries (counting my c-sections), and all but one of them were lower abdominal). But she also said it could turn out that the doctor would get in there, and there would just be too many adhesions from scar tissue, and they wouldn't be able to do it. A CT scan was done of my stomach recently, and they're going to evaluate that, but it has me worried now that I won't be able to get it. Has anyone else been told anything similar? summerseeker 2,241 Posted September 19, 2023 I had a lot of adhesions too and I was also super worried. I was butchered by a surgeon aged 17. My surgeon did not seem worried about it but said he had to work through a lot of it on one side of my tummy. My surgery was longer than most, I expected to have to pay extra money for his time but he did not charge me extra. When I was overweight the adhesions would pull and tear and hurt me badly, I have had no pain since my surgery. I hope you get a positive outcome 3 Nepenthe44, Theia103121 and ReneeLynn reacted to this
ReneeLynn 7 Posted September 19, 2023 (edited) I also have multiple abdominal surgeries and many adhesions. I told my surgeon I was leaning towards RnY, but he recommended the sleeve due to the adhesions (and also time-release meds I take). I had the same cpncern about possibly not being able to get the surgery due to scar tissue, but my surgeon said it is very a very rare situation (adhesions-wise) where they are unable to do the procedure at all. I hope that helps, and I am wishing you luck! ❤️ Edited September 19, 2023 by ReneeLynn 2 summerseeker and Theia103121 reacted to this
Theia103121 21 Posted September 27, 2023 I got the clearance from the surgeon after he looked at my CT scan! We're good to go for the sleeve! 1 3 ChunkCat, BlondePatriotInCDA, ElleRodri and 1 other reacted to this

I had numerous abdominal surgeries myself (7 - appendectomy, cholecystectomy, 2 C sections, hernia repair, hysterectomy and constricted intestinal tract) and I still had my RNY a month ago. Yes, there were adhesions the doctor repaired quite a few and my entire abdomen was a solid black bruise (from my breast creases all the way down past my belly button). I still a month out have bruising - but it was still worth it! I only mention the bruising because no one prepared me for that. Even the PA 3 weeks out was surprised upon seeing my abdomen being a solid black! So, hold out hope just be aware you might have bruising. 2 summerseeker and Theia103121 reacted to this
Jennifer U 10 Posted October 12, 2023 I went in on Monday for a bypass but had too much scar tissue so got vsg instead. I’m busy trying to figure out the differences because I had only researched bypass. 1 summerseeker reacted to this
