Hey all so I’m 4 days post op. Surgery went well but I had an extremely bad time post surgery? Loads of gas pain and extreme nausea. My throat is so soar from all the vomiting. I’ve been working on keeping the liquids down and walking. I’m home now. Does anyone have any advice to get rid of the gas pains and how long they might last for please ?

I know that feeling..

My surgery is set for 2:30 Monday 30th. I'm eager and nervous at the same time. Hunger stopped for me on day 3...

I just pray everything goes smoothly and I don't have to stay in hospital.

Good luck on your upcoming procedure!!

How are u doing post op

I am 4 days post op (sleeve) and had a tiny poop today. We're talking between the size of a regular M&M and a peanut M&M. Still a victory and not surprising, considering all I have had is liquid for 2 days pre-op and 3 days post. By the way, I've always been a regular pooper...hope that's not TMI!!

Hi Walterblock1

I'm 11 days post op (sleeve) and also had pretty significant gas pains. I found that walking really helped me. I'd get up every 2 hours or so and walk a bit. Also, even though it was uncomfortable, try to take some deeper breaths. Did they give you a spirometer in the hospital? I'm still using it at home and I can really see a difference. It WILL dissipate, just takes a few days. Now, I'm up to walking 30 min on the treadmill and feeling great. Hope your recovery goes well!!

Had my first pureed meal just now!! Following my surgeon's guidelines, chicken and carrots. I'm doing fine right now, it all went down fine. Hopefully in an hour or two I'll still be fine. Feeling optimistic!

Way to go! Same here, Oct 16th. Yogurt this morning, an egg w/some chicken broth a bit ago. SO good after the liquid diet and staying down. One more step forward.

Hi had my surgery on Friday the 27th at 10:30 am and today is day 4!!! I feel really good today and each since the surgery I have been feeling better.

When I woke up from surgery the only pain I had was from laying on my back unable to move during the operation coupled with the pain from my period, which of course had to start the day before. I spent a very long time in recovery because they did not have a room ready for me yet, that was about 3-4 hours.

When I finally got to my room, being able to move around helped my back somewhat. The only bad thing for me was the nausea, I puked several times on Friday and a few times the next day when I woke up. I had the option to stay another night in the hospital, but I was eager to get the 130-mile ride back home done.

Once home I only took one anti-nausea medication. I have not had any pain and very little gas. I am getting liquids down very well. My two-week diet consists of 5-6 mini-meals that are 2oz of either yogurt, pudding, creamy Soup or vegetable juice. 1 Protein Shake and 48-64oz of liquids that are either Water, broth, Jello, herbal tea, crystal light, poweraide, or popsicles. low or no sugar for everything course

I am finding it easy to eat more than 1 or 2 oz's at a time, this worries me a little. I am down to only one nap a day I am hoping soon I won't need a nap.

I had surgery Friday also. Everything went well, but I have this pain in my shoulder/neck. I am far enough out that I do not think it is gas pain. Has anyone else had this kind of pain? I am guessing it might be from how I was laying on the operating table. I feel pretty good. I am not having trouble getting Water or Protein Shakes down (though I definitely need to drink more as it is slow going). I haven't had to nap today at all. The first two days were a bit rough as I am pretty sensitive to anesthesia and the medications are too much for me. Now that it is over, I am doing okay.

That's really great that you're able to tolerate things so well! When I was having trouble getting liquids in, my surgeon gave me an example: in the first week post-op, one of her patients asked 'is it normal that I can drink 80 oz a day in the first week after surgery?' and she said 'it's normal for you!' I wouldn't worry, every person is different.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
