Try drinking it warm or room temp. You could also try decaffeinated tea or add sugar-free flavor to your water as tolerated.

If you can, try any liquid. I was allowed sugar free fruit squash/cordials, broth and tea and coffee. Oh and milk. I had my surgery in the English winter and I was so cold all the time. Hot Drinks were my go to. You may need anti nausea medicine as well. It gets better once you can get all your liquids in

Water can seem heavy at first & can seem to take odd. I was always a big water drinker but after surgery I struggled for months. As @summerseeker suggested try other liquids - they all count including your shakes, Soups, etc. Warm drinks were also more soothing & easier to drink for me too. I drank a large mug of green tea every day (still do) & would let sparkling water go flat (remove the lid for a day) & to room temp (I enjoyed the mineral taste of it). I also drank electrolyte drinks (diluted them by doubling the water when making them) as well as plain water.

Dehydration is a serious issue. I just had my 83 yr old mother in hospital for two days with dehydration & related complications. Keep sipping.

For me, I do 1 part sugar free blue or yellow Powerade/Gatorade and 2 parts Water. Or use true lemon powder packets with the stevia sweetener. So long as my water has SOMETHING in it, I can drink it but it's too "thin" that I gag trying to swallow it. Warm chicken Bone Broth with some garlic powder was my go to for the first few weeks because it soothed my stomach, but the salt made my feet and legs get all swollen.

Even with being able to drink.. I still struggle getting enough but that is getting better!

It's still hard for me to not drink anything when I eat. food gets stuck in the back of my throat, so I usually take the tiniest sip just to get it down without choking me but I have to be super careful that I don't sip too much.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
