compression stockings

Recommended Posts

After gastric sleeve, yes or no? I asked the surgeon, he didn`t seem to care eighter way.

Do you have to wear them, can I buy it without prescription, and how long do you have to wear them?

I`m already active now, BMI 40. I plan on walking, walking, walking after surgery.

Thanks!

I would also like to know this answer and I would like to know how to find ones that are not painful. In the past anytime I have tried a compression stocking (even for wide calves) they hurt so much I can't handle it, I do not understand how people can say their legs feel rejuvenated when standing all day and wearing them.

I don't know if there is a proper answer since your doctor didn't seem to care either way. I did the bypass, I did not have to wear any compression anything, and was advised to keep clothing loose for at least 2 weeks including no abdominal binders. As long as you keep walking around to get the air moving out and are not just sitting or laying down all day and getting in your liquids as best as you can - it will help your recovery. I am not sure if your concern is for swelling or just overall keep things pumping - for me almost immediately after surgery my ankle swelling disappeared and had lessened knee pain.

Now I have owned compression leg sleeves as I work a desk job and was having trouble with excess swelling in the legs and ankles mostly during the pandemic and just bought some on Amazon. I don't think you'd have to worry about a prescription since it isn't anything mandatory to wear. Just measure your calves to get the right size. Regardless of when I felt like they were fairly comfortable, it was impossible for me to withstand them for more than a few hours.

I don't know how much walking you will be able to do in the week immediately following surgery as it's more of a hunched over stroll, but it's great to aim to get in as much as you can when your body allows. I would say as long as you have Water and enough electrolytes you should be good.

You can buy them in shops like Amazon. These are my favorite ones https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0897RWF54/ The Zeta Plus Size Leg Sleeves. I wear them a lot when traveling and love that the foot is open so I can wear them with socks that actually fit in the foot, or sandals! LOL Every doctor has different opinions about wearing them and about abdominal binders. I find these comfortable but you need to be careful to measure and get the correct size. I like them but still look forward to taking them off at night to sleep!

I was given them to put on as part of my pre surgical prep the morning of my surgery. I had to wear them for a week I think. But this is in Australia. You can buy them on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/b/ref=dp_bc_aui_C_4?ie=UTF8&node=23461500011

They sent me home with a pair on, but never said anything either way to keep wearing them. Their advice was to walk often.

I wear compression stuff often anyway, cause I tend to have quite a bit of Water retention in general.

I know this was a bit ago but Crazy compression has sales constantly on theirs and have wide calf sizing and then pro compression, for me these were a bit snug. There is also Wellow as well for compression but they were too long and cut into the back of my knees. I use them daily for my leg I broke my ankle on.

I was told wear them during my waking hours for a day or two, and never when I sleep.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
