How Do I Get the Glue Off?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I was banded on 12/7 and my doctor uses glue over my incisions. I have been scrubbing at it (gently) trying to get it off but it is hanging on. I also have this residue all over my stomach and hips from the glue that is turning a shade of grayish black from all the black shirts I wear (it looks terrible). How long is the glue supposed to be covering my incisions and how do I get is off me? Any advise would be great. Thanks :)

It is best to leave it alone. It will come off when you are healed. Our doctors tell patients not to try to take the glue off. As my doctor told me "LEAVE IT ALONE!" I know this from first hand experience.

I picked most of it off. :omg: I hate it! It drives me nuts seeing and feeling it. Some of the incisions just have a thin coat and it doesn't "pick off " well. Wish I could find something to take it off too.

The glue over the incisions: LEAVE IT THE HECK ALONE!!!!!

The other stuff all over your belly: try baby oil and let it sit for a while, then try gently rubbing at it with a dry washcloth.

I wouldn't pick at the glue on the incisions. That's supposed to come off naturally. I would be worried to cause an infection.

As for the other stuff around on your belly...I used hot Water and basically scratched it off in the shower. LOL Probably not the best, but I was being impatient.

Thanks for all of the advise. I got some off with the alcohol then used babyoil and scratched the rest off my stomach. I think I got most of it off my stomach. As for the glue on the incision I am leaving it be just like you all said. Thanks again!

the best thing I have found for removing adhesives from the skin is nail polish remover. the ones with acetone work the best. After you get the adhesive off, then wash the area with soap and Water and apply lotion

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
