What type of surgery did you have? I got sleeved 14 years ago, and was revised to a bypass 56 days ago. You're best bet immediately after surgery is chewable vitamins. They have everything chewable now (no gummies for me, because they don't get as well absorbed with a bypass). I take Bariatric Fusion multivitamin 3 times a day because the bypass is a malabsorptive surgery. I take a Calcium chew once a day, and an Iron once a day. The Iron I take isn't chewable, but I'm 3 months out now so, I'm feel ok when I take it.

It really all depends on your surgery and how far out you are from it.

Yeah, right now you still have swelling in your sleeve. Then you have to account for scar tissue forming. I waited 3 months to swallow capsules. Most likely, you won't have to take them so often. For example, the Bariatric fusion is 4 tablets a day for bypasses, but for sleeves it's only twice a day. Definitely consult your team, or ask for blood work to see what, if any, modifications you have to make to your Vitamin routine.

Vitamins always made me nauseous (before & after surgery) & I threw up a couple of times. Make sure you take them after eating (or drinking your shake). Certain vitamins are more likely to cause the nausea (like Iron, vitamins A,D, E & K). I also spread mine out over the day so I wasn’t taking a full dose of vitamins & other supplements at the same time which helped. Also don’t take iron & Calcium at the same time nor take iron around the time you have caffeine (caffeine esp. coffee reduces the absorption of iron by 65% or more).

I was so very happy when my surgeon said I didn’t have to continue to take them after 8 months. (I had passed my goal, my blood work was good & has continued to be good 4 years on & I have a sleeve.)

For the first few months, I was using the Bariatric Pal one-a-day chewable vitamins. Once I felt that I could swallow a pill that large, I started taking the Bariatric Pal one-a-day Vitamins.

The Iron may be what's upsetting your stomach. I take my Vitamins and supplements with Protein Drinks to get something in my stomach to keep it from getting woozy. I was told no gummy vitamins or supplements. There are a lot of chewables out there to choose from. Also, I take mine one at a time over about 20 minutes, so it's not so much at once. I get nauseous if I take my vitamins and supplements too fast.

I did chewable with the sleeve for the first 6 weeks, then switched to the regular pill. With the revision from sleeve to bypass, I started off with liquid for the first 2 weeks, then was able to jump in and take the regular pill. Ironically, I had a harder time with the sleeve than the bypass. Who knew?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
