Juicing or Blended drinks

Recommended Posts

At what stage can I juice and or blend vegetables for consumption? Juicing fruit will have too much sugar obviously but what kind of other things or vegetables do you guys blend with besides Protein Powder?

I can't answer what will sit well after surgery, but as for general shakes I've found that baby spinach, frozen cauliflower, zucchini, and avocado tend to disappear into most drinks I put them in. Not always the most appealing colorwise but they all work well taste wise. Especially with berries!

Yesterday I saw someone on a WLS Instagram use frozen riced cauliflower in a smoothie with low calorie orange juice and a coconut cream Protein powder for a tropical Orange Julius and now I'm intrigued to try it...

Check with your team. Different plans have different requirements regarding fruit & also ask about portion size. Yes, juice is not encouraged - lot of the goodness of the whole fruit is not in the juice & it takes several pieces of fruit to make a cup of juice where you would only eat a single piece of fruit at a time.

Vegetables should be okay if the taste doesn’t bother you. Just again check your allowed foods list first.

I drink about 3oz of fresh juice for a snack. I love carrots, cucumber & beets. I juice up a bunch & freeze 3oz in breast milk bags (they are much stronger then regular ziplock bags) and have one every couple of days.

I love these ideas everyone. Thanks for the input. I got a new list of food to try for week 4 along with foods to avoid. Spinach is a go. But no fruit with seeds or skin. I will look into a good juicer but it may be more cost efficient for me to buy it organic no sugar at this time and just add a creamy or clear Protein. I will update everyone soon.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
