Hey everyone I am 1 day post op and still have a bit of gas coming through which is expected but happy to be in a normal bed instead of the hospital! Anyone else have to do blood thinner injections? Was it easy to do on yourself?

Congratulations on your surgery. Walk and drink and rest are the order of the day.

Yes I had Blood thinner injections. They are easy to do but can be a bit stingy. The bruising on my belly looked brutal but its to be expected. I was supposed to take them for a month [I think] but binned the last week. I

Thank you! And okay I just want to make sure some things are normal. I have also just recently stated to have blood in my urine but I don’t feel sick and I don’t feel any pain or anything in my kidneys just gas in my abdomen of course. I saw that it could be a uti and I’m hoping that’s the case

Yes I did my blood thinner injections for two weeks post op. They are easy to do and the needle is so thin that I barely felt it.

I would keep an eye on the blood in your urine though and perhaps contact your bariatric team to report it.

I reported it to my dr and he said if I didn’t feel sick that I should be okay. It only happens when I urinate and not in between so I know it’s my cycle

I'm assuming you had a catheter in for surgery? UTIs after catheter use aren't unusual and sometimes you can have one without symptoms so you may want to have them check for that at some point. Congrats on your surgery!!

No catheter was used and when I spoke to my surgeon he said he wasn’t sure what it was from. I read that it could be kidney stones or a UTI but so far today I have been okay with nothing in my urine but I plan on seeing my primary doctor to make sure all is well

Huh, that's so weird. Everywhere I've been catheters are used for surgeries expected to last an hour or more. I even had one placed for a 45 min surgery. I wonder if that's why you had bleeding? From pressure in your bladder during the time you were out? Either way hopefully they figure out what's up! Glad it seems to be abating...

I called and the doctor said that it could be the start of my blood thinners and or all the pressure inside my abdomen with the gas and all that and I’ve never had a surgery before especially not one this major!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
