Any ideas on what to have sardines or canned tuna with??

Recommended Posts

I used to love having a baguette and can of sardines before my gastric sleeve surgery, but now obviously I can't have bread for a while and I learned I can't have leafy greens until I get to solids, but as I'm getting closer to soft foods I'm excited to have fish again and I was wondering what could I do to substitute bread with my tuna salads and sardines?

I didnt have room for anything else but Protein at the soft food point, but i just ate tuna/tiny bit of mayo/chopped pickles— making sure they were super chopped. Later you could try cucumber slices as a “chip” - and like you said leafy green wrap might be a good solution when you are ready for that.

I use cannelloni Beans and light mayo with my tuna. I crush the beans and mix with mayo and tuna packet. You can then use lettuce boats or lettuce wraps.

Some of the tuna creation packets even have some various flavors that help change the taste a bit.

In the beginning, I just did the reduced fat mayo and tuna, and added some seasoning. Like someone said, I only had room for the Protein. As your progress, you'll find what to eat it with. For me, I use reduced fat wheat thins, maybe 4 or 5 of them. I like to crush them so it's more of a topping than a vehicle to get the tuna salad to my mouth. Veggies are aways a great option as you can tolerate it.

My dietician told me to try Laughing cow cheese spread with tuna. It comes in little triangles and you just use one and mash it with tuna . ( it's a substitute for mayo ) It's really good and it's a pure Protein meal. It's also a good topping on a couple of Ritz crackers.

I would probably just eat it with a spoon, tbh. I don't know if you're able to have raw veggies yet but PEELED cucumber slices might be the best option (if you're going to have problems with any part of the veggies it's probably the skin/seeds so I would do either a Persian or English cucumber that has been peeled)
