addiecampbell298 0 Posted August 3, 2023 Hello all. I will be going for my first consultation next Thursday. Was hoping to find encouragement because I’m worried I won’t qualify for surgery. My friends have had this done and one has mentioned I may not qualify for the surgery itself. I’m 5’1” and 186lbs currently. BMI over 35.9. Advice? Comments? catwoman7 11,220 Posted August 3, 2023 (edited) the standard eligibility requirement is with a BMI of 35 you need to have two co-morbidities, but if your BMI is 40+, co-morbidities are not necessary. Although your situation depends on whether or not your surgeon and/or your insurance company follow this standard. co-morbidities include sleep apnea, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and high cholesterol Edited August 3, 2023 by catwoman7 1 Tomo reacted to this
pintsizedmallrat 473 Posted August 3, 2023 Most insurance will require you to have 2 comorbidities as listed above. https://www.barixclinics.com/comorbidities-of-bariatric-surgery Joint/back/knee issues related to your weight may also help you qualify. 1 Tomo reacted to this
