Is it just me or…

Is it just me or am I the only one who gets reminded daily/hourly and ever moment of the day of the things I can no longer eat. Lol Like why? I already know! Lol

Is this by family and friends? Medical team? I'm lucky that I live alone with my 16-yr-old. She very much minds her own business except to ask how I'm feeling and to encourage me when I'm feeling down. I have 10 living brothers and sisters, but they know I've been through this before. They mind their own business except to text me to ask how I'm doing. They mostly have questions rather than "reminders." I do have 2 sisters who have 20+ and 40+ years experience as RN's, so I do ask them a lot of questions about nutrition.

Maybe they're just looking out for you. If they don't have personal experience with weight issues or WLS, they may not realize that their reminders can get frustrating. You could let them know how you feel. Just a thought. ;)

So far only family. I currently live with my sister brother in law and her 1 and a half children. My mother is here part time for child care so it’s a full house. Plenty of space thank god. lol My sister is an FNP. And my brother in law is a DNP. My mother has medical background but not actively. I also have medical background but I’m not a nurse. I’m administrative and I’ve been in this field for over 13yrs+ I’ve only told 3 coworkers and 2 friend. I don’t expect them to do things like that tho. More encouraging than anything else. I was very careful about who I told just for these exact reasons. Sigh… I have to train people how to act around me on top of this journey? I’m tired just thinking about it. Lmfao!

Just try and ignore what is being said and keep your eye on your goals.

Post op, this hit me hard. I considered it part of mourning food but it still concerned me even though I heard about it. Thankfully, it does go away over time as your body adjusts. Your body physically, and mentally are going through a lot and hits you all at once.

Gradually you get used to the new way of seeing food, eating food and it does get easier. But man those first weeks are hard. I seriously missed the enjoyment of chewing food and eating the large quantities along with the glorious tastes This is part of the addiction and, as the mind resets, and you set new habits, it does diminish. I am five months out, and now see food as fuel. I still get enjoyment from the taste, but the restriction has now created a new habit of getting joy from a smaller amount. Before surgery I used to stuff myself each meal. Now I hit my restriction and find it easier to just stop and be happy.

Hang in there, stick to your plan using your training from your program.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
